I have been looking at the CZ compacts. See the compact with a safety and the other Compacts with a decocker Never had a gun with a decocker. Already have 2 full size 75's. Both have a safety. Don't carry anything......yet. Like the compact size, but not sure of the weight of the compact with a safety, that's what got me looking at the other compact models.

What are the advantages or disadvantages of the decocker?

More familiarity if you're used to DA/SA guns. Some would argue that a firearm with a thumb safety lever might not be fired if the user forgets that it's on.

Disadvantages - some people tend to have trouble dealing with the transition from long first trigger to subsequent short trigger pulls.

i have a p-01 and it was my first decocker pistol. at first i was a little hesitant because of the decocker, but now i prefer decocker to safety in most cases. you can carry a decocker model uncocked or in the decocked position which is half cocked (really more like 1/3 cocked) to reduce the pull of the d/a pull. realistically it's basically impossible to accidentally fire a decocker cz with the stock d/a pull, and you always have the option to pull the hammer back for the first shot if you already have the firearm drawn if you don't like the d/a pull.

as far as differences among the p-01, pcr, and 75 compact... the p-01 and pcr weigh roughly the same with the pcr being 1 ounce lighter at 27oz, and the p-01 at 28oz. both have alloy frames, but the p-01 has an accessory rail whereas the pcr does not have the accessory rail, basically the same gun. the 75 compact however weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 38oz  it's is basically the same gun as a p01 in design and having the accessory rail, except the frame is steel, and it has the safety. among the three, my preference is the p-01, hence my purchase of one, but if an accessory rail isn't important to you, the pcr is a great gun. i'm sure you've already done your research, considering your comment about looking at the other models because of the weigh of the compact, but figured i'd throw this out there in case someone comes in and starts to get curious.

back to the decocker, i feel safer with my p-01 uncocked or decocked than carring a manual safety gun cocked and locked.

I love my CZ SP01, manual safety model. I was always leery of a decocker-equipped pistol; the idea of a gun with no true safety concerned me. That is, until I picked up a Sig; I've now gained an appreciation of the decocker.

I haven't fired a decocker'd CZ, but if it's anything like the Sig, I'd imagine it's a great gun, and perfectly safe to carry. It's true you can just pull the trigger without flipping off a manual safety, but the fact is that you have to pull hard - i.e. you really have to mean it. If I get another CZ, I'll look closely at the decocker-style guns.

Been using P01 and PCR for years, no issues with decocker. The half cock, which is where it is designed to be carried, is really not bad at all, easy pull.

cocked and locked carry takes more practice to master drawing and clicking off the safety so i is second nature without thinking about it.

the decocker model is simpler in that you simply pull the trigger after unholstering, but your 1st shot might not be as precise due to the double action first shot.

if you don't have the time (or desire) to practice cocked and locked carry, i would definitely go with the decocker model. :)

i prefer cocked and locked carry with my cz's. but then i'm a gun nut that enjoys practice lol :D

This is why I prefer the decocker system on CZs, otherwise the reach to the DA trigger is excessive, even on my PCR compact. While it is true a manual safety model can be cocked and locked, I find the safety lever too narrow, rounded and far forward to reach easily.

Just to be clear to others, the PCR has a half cock position and decocker just like the P-01. I think I know what you are saying, but it could be construed that the PCR is not a decocker.

I prefer the decocker on my CZs. On my model 75Bs and my 82s the safety doesn't seem to lock into 'safe' battery well enough to make be feel comfortable. It's not like the 1911 where it locks into safe position... It seems it could easily slide out of safe and then you've got a hair trigger waiting for an accident.
