It looked like GI 1911 with CZ USA address on frame plus Made in USA on slide. Very well made 1911 for price asked. Anyone knows who makes them CZ USA? It came with two Check Mate magazines and plastic CZ USA case. Thanks.

They were a limited run last year, and now discontinued. Most likely made by Dan Wesson.

I just bought one, like it a lot. The rumor is the smiths at dan wesson assembled them but no official word. The quality on the inside is excellent too...

No rumor about it. Both CZ and DW confirm it was made and assembled by DW. Warranty service sends it to CZ in Kansas City rather than to DW in Norwich, New York.

Old news - one time limited run made by DW for CZ, just over 1000 units, there's still new ones out there waiting to be bought.

Thanks. Looking over the gun I concluded it was worth $789 tax included. For basic 1911 I would pick that over guns in same price range like Ruger, Springfield Armory, or Colt. I didn't buy it because I already own a Colt and did not want to spend money on something I do not need.

They made only 1,000 of them and they are still available for sale over a year later. Whoever dreamed up the idea that there would be demand for a GI-style CZ 1911 sure missed the mark.

The two I looked at were ok, but didn't seem like anything special. I wonder if they might have done better to market it as an entry-level DW rather than a CZ.

Selling them as Dan Wesson pistols probably would have attracted more interest but the problem is that these CZ 1911s are selling for around $500 less than the lowest priced Dan Wesson. That would have caused people to question why the other Dan Wessons are so expensive.

The gun looked real good to me. Not much needed in terms of modifications except for user friendly ambi safety, tritium front sight and re-shaping of rear sight blade into "express type" with set of jewelry files.

I played with one and was very impressed. VERY nice basic no frills 1911. Great trigger, good fit everywhere else.

If I was looking for a nice retro, or base to build on it would be at the top of my list.

The nicest minimalist G.I. style I've seen. Though I've seen them as low as the mid 600s, I consider it a steal under 800.00.

It's a high quality "GI" type of 1911. The only cast parts are the grip safety and magazine catch and the fit of the parts are top notch. Mine has been flawless with any ammo or magazine.

The only things I changed was the grip safety for a Pachmayr one to prevent hammer bite and the MSH for a flat one since that's what I prefer. The photo below is when I first brought it home.

They made over 1000 no one is quite sure how many more tho. I am supersized you got hammer bite since the hammer is different than the standard GI version. These are great quality pistols for the money for sure.

The CZ 1911 is made in the DW factory in Norwich, NY and are very well made, better than the typical Ruger/Remington offerings in this price range. CZ is known for making small batches of specialty guns now and then and will likely make more of these down the road.

I use a high hold thumbs forward grip on all semi-auto pistols. It's also there to prevent the GI hook like tail of the grip safety from digging in my hand. I'd love to keep it on there, but I've never held any GI/Milspec 1911 out there that wouldn't beat up my hand without a grip safety change.

I also get slide bite with every Glock out there except for the G43. All of my larger Glocks have a beavertail. For some reason they decided to make the tail end stick out just a tad more on the G43.

I am not surprised that Dan Wesson could make a no-frills "G.I." 1911A1 at a price point way below their high priced spread with all bells and whistles that please the modern buyer.

There was a CZ1911 with box and papers for sale on a local forum for $600 two
days ago. It sold the 1st day.

I handled one at the big LGS, and I was very impressed. Just my ignorant opinion, but I thought it was nicer than the other guns they had at that price point.

I'm an admitted cheapskate, and I later ended up buying a Tisas 1911A1 at the same place for $299.
The CZ seemed to be a better quality, and I liked the finish and rollmark better, but it was over twice the price.

I really wasn't hunting for any 1911's at the time; if I HAD to have one, the CZ would have been my pick. The Tisas was more of a "man, I really just can't beat this price" deal.

As an aside, I think the CZ fit into 2 marketing roles.
  1. As a high quality GI model, it's a great option
  2. As a "My Favorite Brand" 1911, it meets the bill, but is a little plain. Sig and S&W are a couple of other brands that come to mind, known for other guns, that also put out 1911's and you might want one on your brand. The CZ is the most generic of this bunch.
I'm a CZ guy, and I did consider getting one "just because". If I had more expendable money, I would have.

Can we assume DW made them without MIM parts? DW uses all forged or machined from bar parts in DW 1911's.

I posted above that the grip safety and the magazine catch are the only two cast parts on the gun. Everything else is either forged or bar stock.

One of the big dogs at DW said it had no mim parts.
