...it doesn't make it any quieter, really, nor did I expect it to (it IS an AK, and they're rather open when it comes to the gas system.)

All it did was make cleaning the corrosive salts out of the internals a real pain. Just thought I'd prevent anyone else from trying similar and wasting money or in my case, time. At least the QD mount serves quite well as a FH so the work wasn't for nothing, and it didn't take more than an hour to take the barrel out, thread it, and put it back in. :)

I used to think the gassing from a silenced AR15 was bad. This took that sort of thing to a whole new level. :what:

Not quieter at all? I can't believe there wouldn't be some reduction. I don't suppose you did measurements? I've read that silenced AK47s were highly regarded during the Russian invasion of afghanistan albeit with subsonic ammo. The AK47 gas system is just as open as the 74.

Yes, there was some reduction in noise. I exaggerated.

I haven't yet saved up near enough for the sound meter I want, nope. I want to buy it only once, so I'm saving toward a really nice meter and mic, then I'll have to pay for calibration regularly.

The change in noise didn't seem much, it was more of a change in where the noise was and the overall pitch. I'll be modifying a gas block so that I can adjust it, and I'll go from there. I'll make this quiet yet. :)

I don't know how accurate it is, if at all, but there is a decibel meter android app. I used it with my 5.56 can but it was a while ago and i don't recall what it indicated.

It is unfortunately no better than "this is loud, this isn't as loud, this is louder" in terms of accuracy.

It's a nice looking rifle anyway, even if it's not quiet!

I think so too, especially since I bought it as a bone-stock Saiga. Tinkering is fun. :D

Yeah, somebody asked this on here a while back and I kind of predicted this would happen. But If I had and AK I'd suppress it too --I am waiting on an SDN6 and it'll go on a few rifles, not all of which will be very quiet. DI is still good for something besides just dirtying up the action I guess.

And yeah, it does look pretty cool. Is that an AAC M4-2000? If so, then I agree with you on those mounts, best flash hider I ever used without a doubt. That Brakeout works as advertised too, that came as a shock.

Close, it's an M4-1000. :)

Why? AAC produces wonderful products, at least those that I've used.

Once I get the adjustable gas block built and on there, this should be as quiet as the ARs I used to have (they also required an adjustable gas block or it was too loud w/silencer, just wanted to see if the AK was different in that aspect)

That's one of the reasons some AK-derivatives like Sako M92S have adjustable gas port which can be closed completely by turning a lever. You'll lose semiautomatic function but the gun becomes extremely quiet with subsonic ammo.
