Getting Savage Model 10 barrell nut OFF....I NEED H E L P

These are right hand threads correct ??? Cannot get it to budge either way. Clamped receiver into a VERY large lathe and put nut wrench to the barrell nut and it simply wont move. Any suggestions on how to get the stubborn thing off ?:cuss: :cuss:

I assume you are using the correct wrench. Don't try with anything else. You may have to use a long handle on that wrench or whack it with a mallet, but it will come (I hope).

The best way is to clamp the barrel in a barrel vise, as close in as you can get, then use the wrench on the nut.

Like I said I am using a LARGE lathe for a vise. Something like a 18 " swing x 60 " bed. It does not turn while the wrench is applied. It can clamp hard enough to damage the receiver. I am using correct wrench and cannot budge the nut. Worried at this point about damaging the receiver. Just wanted to be sure I was trying to turn it the right way. Forgot to apply penetrating oil to the threads before trying to loosen the nut. Liberally applied kroil to hope it comes off. Will give it a day to soak in.

If the Kroil doesn't work you may try applying a little heat. As I said a little. If you get it too hot you will ruin the heat treat in the receiver. Re-apply the Kroil several times to make sure it soaks in as far as possible. Good stuff that Kroil.
Good luck, John K
