Bowling pins are coated with the same plastics that the golf balls are. But they're filled with wood which doesn't tend to explode in exciting ways. Have you tried a 40 mm grenade or a 20, 25, or 30 mm cannon with HEDP?
I have a small cannon chambered in golf ball (1.70"). It will bury a ball in an earthern bank, but when dug out, the thing is re-shootable, aside from the discoloration on one side. 350-500g of ffg does the job. Range? Never found one fired for range. I'll run one through my chroney some time and let you know what I get.

Geez! They are round to keep the chickens from screaming. You must be from the city.
I "heard" about this kid who made a homemade cannon one time. One day it was discovered that the bore of the cannon was a perfect fit for a golf ball. Now the story goes that this kid fired a golf ball down a long hill with a reduced load of about a quarter pound of pyrodex. Normal load would be half a pound but he didn't have that much on hand. Anyway, "rumor" has it that said golf ball struck a rock at about 200 yards. End result: dead golf ball, dead rock.
Aslo heard said cannon was hell on bowling pings and railroad ties when loaded with pea gravel.
Don't know if it was legal or not, so that musta been one crazy kid.........

I wanted to murder that golfball, but after shooting it with buckshot it went flying into the brush and was not found...... All golf balls shall pay!!! They can't stand up to my guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
