New today:

Pennsylvania SB1029 would require every that owns or possesses a firearm to have a 'firearm eligibility license' which would be issued by the state police and cost $50 the first time and $30 for each renewal (every 5 years). To apply for one a person must have gone through a certified firearms training course approved by the commissioner (minimum 16 hours and must be no more than 3 years before the application). The application would also require fingerprints.

Wisconsin:

SB299 would create 'lethal violence protective temporary restraining orders' and 'lethal violence protective injunctions'. Anyone, including police could file one against anyone. If the court finds the person is a threat the injunction would be granted for 1 year and all firearms must be surrendered.

SB301 SB301 would remove the minimum age requirement for the hunting mentorship program.

US Congress:

HR467 would create a select committee on gun violence prevention

HR473 HR473 is a resolution calling for congress to act on gun violence that is chocked full of all the proven lies the anti-gun crowd keeps repeating. It then goes on to call for the passage of all the anti-gun bills from the 114th congress.

Sorry I haven't posted this week, just all sorts of personal nonsense going on. Any way here's what's new for the week:

New Jersey S3218 would make changes to law making it harder for anyone ever committed for mental health care to buy a firearm

http://amgoa.org/Proposed-New-Jersey-Gun-Law-S3218/State-Law/44065

Pennsylvania HB1010 would change law so that a person purchasing guns at a show only has to get one background check and they can then use that number (or the receipt from the previous purchase) to make other purchases at the show.

http://amgoa.org/Proposed-Pennsylvania-Gun-Law-HB1010/State-Law/44068

Wisconsin:

SB365 would make it a class I felony for going 'armed with a dangerous weapon in any building or facility on the grounds of a university or college'

SB351 would make changes to law pertaining to firearm ownership and protection from abuse orders

http://amgoa.org/Proposed-Wisconsin-Gun-Laws

New for US Congress:

HB3802 would set up exemptions for ammunition being classified as armor piercing

SB2213 has no text but the title says it all 'A bill to prohibit firearms dealers from selling a firearm prior to the completion of a background check.' - the so-called background check loophole

HB3799 would remove suppressors from the NFA list and treat them as firearms

HB3830 would set up a national sales tax on firearms of $100 per sale

HB3853 - the first paragraph of the bill explains everything 'To provide the Attorney General with greater discretion in issuing Federal firearms licenses, and to authorize temporarily greater scrutiny of Federal firearms licensees who have transferred a firearm unlawfully or had 10 or more crime guns traced back to them in the preceding 2 years.

HB3813 would set up a grant program for states that adopt tighter restrictions on firearm possession in cases of domestic abuse

SB2198 is the sister bill to HB3813

SB2209 would stop the reclassification of ammunition as armor piercing, eliminate restrictions on non-NFA ammunition imports and protect shotguns, shotgun shells and large caliber rifles from arbitrary classification as 'destructive devices’'

HB388 has been introduced in congress and it's a nightmare!

It would create a federal firearm license that would require everyone that owns a firearm to apply to the attorney general for a firearm license. The application would require all personal information, a photo, a thumbprint, a certification of completion of a firearms safety course.

The bill also contains universal background check requirements and it would require all sales to be recorded with the attorney general's office.

Finally the bill contains all sorts of new prohibitions on firearm ownership such as failure to report a stolen firearm, failure to report a change of address and failure to prevent access to firearms by children.

Tennessee HB1424 would drop the price of a lifetime carry permit from $500 to $200

http://amgoa.org/Proposed-Tennessee-Gun-Law-HB1424/State-Law/44083

Congress:

New today for Michigan SB0545 would add public libraries to the list of places you can not carry in and also makes it illegal to open carry in any of those places.

Brilliant idea. :what: Is there a softer target than a library?

Two new federal bill in today, one decent and one that is literally a joke:

HB4026 Would make it so a concealed carry license is an acceptable form of identification for airport security screening and it would make it illegal for the federal government to store that information

http://amgoa.org/Proposed-Federal-Gun-Legislation-HB4026/Federal-Law/2322

Now comes the joke, from none other than the vile anti-gunner from hell Carolyn Maloney.

The bill is HB4009 and is titled the 'Flamethrowers? Really? Act', we kid you not. The bill would add flamethrowers to the NFA registry and would create penalties for using a flamethrower in the commission of a crime. You know because we have this horrible rash of flamethrower crimes ;)

Is there a flamethrower problem of which I was unaware?

:p

What crime would you commit with a flame thrower besides arson anyway? You're not going to rob a bank with one.
I'm not going to commit a crime with a flame thrower at all. But as for your average criminal, who can say. I saw a surveillance video of a guy who tried to rob a convenience store with a Creme Brulee torch. He got his rear end handed to him by the baseball bat wielding clerk, but if he had a flame thrower, the story might be different.

Those who are willing to use a weapon to commit a crime don't generally care about what weapon they use, as long as they can stack the deck in their favor and get away with it.

I know a kid (serving life w/o parole) who used a scrap piece of steel pipe from a nearby construction site to bash his victim over the head for a handful of change.

Robbery under the threat of arson of an occupied building would be a crime I wouldn't put passed a lot of these thuggish scoundrels.

My 4WD SUV is more powerful than some Destructive Devices, too, for what it's worth. Just because it can be used illegally is no reason to restrict it from the law abiding.

Powdered aluminum and iron and magnesium can be FAR more destructive than any kind of flamethrower. All of them exist on my bicycle. Wanna ban those?
People use flamethrowers ALL THE TIME in farming. I see it weekly in this part of Italy, and I know they are used in the California wine country as well.

Well, at least Maloney doesn't even sound very serious (are question marks even allowed in legislation titles?)

Often you'll see some crazy proposed bills pop up in my Great State of South Carolina. They never go anywhere. However, most of the time the really good ones do pass.

As for the early comments about us not being able to ignore the federal government, since when has that stopped us? :neener:

Just like here in Michigan. There is one that just recently got introduced that would repeal the Castle Doctrine in total.
