While out looking at handguns today I came across several older 12 gauge shotguns for sale. They were marked, High Standard Riot 20-6 K120, 12 gauge 2 3/4" IIRC. Some had 'Riot K120' on them, some without the markings. Some were a little narly, but a few looked pretty decent overall and since I am a handgun guy and a shotgun novice, I need your input from this corner of THR. :D

What do you think about getting one of these old cop shotguns for under $200?

Deal or no Deal?

I think it would have to be WELL under $200 before I would consider it. They have probably had a rough life. I have a Hi Standard pump shotgun in excellent condition (from my father). The one thing I really don't like about it is that you can't remove the barrel. It is screwed into the receiver and a major gunsmith job to remove. So cleaning the chamber is a little troublesome and you have to take care not to be junk into the trigger mechanism while cleaning. Properly maintained, they work well.

I found this post while looking for accessories for my 18-7. They may have had a hard life, but they are top notch firearms. Mine is atleast 5 years older than me, and still goes boom every time I pull the trigger.

The only down side I have found so far is a lack of accessories.

I've owned three of these over the years. Two with the bead front sight and one with adjustable open sights.

They are as ReA said " Top Notch " firearms with one of the slickest actions you will find in a pump gun.

PS: Price variations exist in different parts of the country - The last one I purchased was 2 or 3 years ago and paid $125 for it. Price of around $150 or so should buy them.
