Hotel's?

I will ask this here since it is general and gun related. Anyhow my wife and I are taking a road trip to Ohio to visit her family. We are planning to spend the night on the way in Lexington Kentucky at a hotel. Now my wife works for the local Sheraton so we will be staying in one in Lexington as she gets a killer room rate (like $30). Now I asked her if when you rent a hotel room if it is considered a temporary residence and she said that it is. Here comes the part where I need you guys, she asked me why I ask and I wanted to know if a hotel has any say so in having a handgun in your room. Now I don't plan on telling them but worst case scenario we leave the room to go have dinner and for some reason a hotel employee comes in the room while were downstairs and starts being nosy and discovers the gun. Can they say anything about it or deny me the right to stay in their hotel even if they have no signs prohibiting the carry of firearms in the hotel. I know some of you are going to say carry it with you, but their is the problem I don't want to carry when I go to dine in the hotel because I will probably be consuming alcohol to ease the tension of a long days drive. So what do you guys think, for one I don't want to pay for a room safe if there is even one and I don't want to leave it in the car especially a car left parked in a hotel parking lot with no security.

If some hotel clerk tells me they were snooping in my room and found a gun, *I* will be the one "saying something about it."
That said, I don't think it will really be a problem. Just tuck it out of sight in case a maid strolls in with extra towels.

Most hotels have small lock boxes in the rooms now a days. If you are
going to eat at the hotel then you can lock your sidearm there without
much to worry about. If I carried one on me all the time I would leave
it in the vehicle if I were in a place (Bar/Grill) that didn't allow firearms.
Otherwise the firearm would be on my person or in my wifes purse.

Take your gun with you when you go to eat. Does no good in the hotel.

Check Kentucky's carry laws.

I would never leave my weapon in the room if I went to dinner or anywhere else. Its always on me or in my presence.

#1: DO NOT DRINK - you still have the gun when you get back to the room!

#2: Take a lockbox, or at least a piece of locking luggage.

#3: Check the laws.

#4: Hang the "Do Not Disturb" sign while you are away.

Here in WI I am not allowed to carry, but I do usually bring a gun with me to keep in the hotel room. Most of the time I am forced to leave it in the room during the day. I have an outside pocket on my bag that I can lock. I put the gun and extra mag in there while I am gone. One hotel I accidently left the mag and a $100 bill in the nightstand drawer. The hotel called me to let me know that I had left some "property" in my room. I went back to pick them up. They had put both the mag and the $100 bill in a box and sealed them up for me. I was just happy that they returned all that was mine. I left a reward for the room service lady.

Recently while staying at my usual hotel in Los Anchorage, I was asking about secure storage because I have to do a lot of power shopping and mailing when I first get there (it's a bush thing).
The clerk was telling me about the secure dry storage and freezer space available for the bush guests and she said they can store anything for us except guns. Those we have to keep in our room or on our person. I never asked about guns she just volunteered the info. They have me as permanent customer now and have become accustomed to seeing me walking in with gun cases and shopping bags laden with ammo.

I do take care to put the cases out of sight in the room.

Kenucky recognizes MOST other CCWs. Ohio doesn'r reciprocate so Kentucky doesn't. DO NOT carry a firearm into any bar or restaurant that serves alcohol in Lexington. State and local violations-misdemeanor. A rented space is your castle for the terms of the lease/rental agreement. I would get a hard case and lock it in the car while out. Take it in while you are in the room UNLESS you have imbibed. Kentucky has a LOW BA for DUI and CCW.

Josey,

Lexington might like to make it a misdemeanor, but KY law overrides it. Restaurants receiving 50% of sales from food purchases are NOT offlimits.

Thank you all for posting and I already know about packing.org, they are the reason I got my Florida Non-Resident CCW. Anyways I am doing my review on Ky law and I will probably carry with me. It has been 8 months since I have had any alcoholic beverages (I rarely drink) so I think that it will be no problem not to drink. As far as the restaurant is concerned I was just planing on getting a bite in the hotel as I will probably be tired. Unless any of you guys know of a damn good steakhouse in Lexington then I might be game to venture out. Like I said before though I do know about packing.org and plan on doing my research there when it comes to CCW or the transporting firearms in a vehicle laws of the states I will be passing through (Tenn, Kentucky, Ohio) as I already know everything for North Carolina. Do all of these states reciprocate with a Florida Non-Resident CCW or which ones do I have to look out for. Also if they don't reciprocate do they allow open carry (like when I have to stop a rural gas stations) or would I be advised against open carry even if they do allow it. I know that open carry can be tricky in North Carolina and if these other states are as touchy about it can you please let me know. Aside from looking up the laws for myself does anybody that has carried on road trips have pointers for me? Like beside the actually laws just pointers like road trip tactics.

I travel a lot.

Leave NOTHING in your room that is valuable to you unattended.

Hang the DO Not Disturb Sign on the door but keep in mind that the staff will stroll through this one occasionally.

As far as the gun, do not leave it in the room.

I never leave a gun in a motel room, its in the pocket or locked in the truck. On the too many beers idea my wife is pretty much a non drinker so they cant say much when a sober person says shoot that ??????? here is the gun.
