On a weekend trip to Houston, my wife used Priceline for our hotel. We ended up at the Hilton near the Galleria. After dropping my wife off at the door, I parked the truck and started to walk inside. That is when I noticed the signage on the doors. In all of the legal requirements, (30.06 verbage and all), was the sign not allowing concealed weapons inside. Following the law, I returned to the truck and left my weapon locked inside. As priceline is non-refundable, we stayed, but rest assured, we will not stay there again.

I have stayed at other various Hilton chain hotels and have never run into this before. Is this something new for Hilton, or just location specific?

Wow.
Can't imagine a place more in need of not having a 30.06 sing than around the Houston Galleria (well, other than around Geo R Brown, there in the 5th Ward, but, I suspect none of those places are on PriceLine).

Makes me want to wander past all the places over there near Reliant/Dome; which would have to close for not taking in dealers for gun shows 6-8 times a year.

That's dumb. I would have spoken to a manager in an attempt to get a refund for denying my rights. Also, I would have looked for the side entrance that most likely didn't have a sign and asked if it was okay to bring it in through there.

I didnt carry my concealed carry firearm in a posted place and they didnt notice.

It's certainly not Hilton corporate policy. I've stayed at many of them and have never had a problem. It's probably just that manager or franchise owner. I would have suggested that you speak the the manager to seek either a refund or a transfer to another local Hilton without that policy.

I am retired LEO,and its not wired into my brain to even look at the signage as I enter such places.

It is very possible that I may have violated such a sign in a place of business.

BUT since I carry CONCEALED ,it did not become an issue and I guess ignorance is bliss on both our behalves.

I can not understand why businesses bar legal carry by permit holders, when the real problem is illegal carry. Don't they realize who will abide by their rule and who will not?

A local business has signage that bars "illegal weapons" presumably a wink-and-nudge that legal weapons are not barred.

Yes and no.

Some of it is simply legal CYA, they know it won't make a difference to criminals, but if something happens, they can point to that sign and say "see, we aren't responsible!" Some lawyer told them they needed to do it, so they did.

The other part of it is fear. Emotions are, by definition, not rational. There are a lot of people who fear guns, and any argument based on fact is going to do no good at all.

Embassy Suites are a Hilton chain and they don't seem have such. Could be local.

He was free to go elsewhere, but he had already paid for the room - the perils of Priceline. I will never use that service again; Hilton's, I like

I never have noticed a sign like that at a Hilton hotel and I have used their hotels at several places.

Did the 30.06 sign have the language in English and Spanish and the right size? Texas is specific. I would also assume you could carry your gun to your room either way because that is like your home for the night.

I would have just put it in your bag and kept on going. Come out with gun in bag, and carry as you might always.

I have a copy of the Texas sign on the wall of my garage. It is 2+ years old not sure if they have made changes since then. I get great satisfaction ignoring it every day.
The last company I worked for sold Federal and state poster sets.

I'm kind of failing to understand how a hotel can ban CCW. Or at least within the hotel room that you have rented. I remember reading something that a court had said a hotel could ban firearms (sorry, no reference), but it doesn't seem right.

I'm not sure on the wording of the 30.06 signs, but if that were me, I'd unload the gun, put it in my bag and head to my room.

Hilton on SW Freeway was not posted last time I visited someone staying there (back in March), definitely an area I won't go without carrying!

If you can't be arrested,Ignore the sign.

you can always be arrested -- "you can beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride!"

But unless the sign is on every entrance that is open to the public the posting is not valid.

I can't believe you actually walked out and locked your gun in your vehicle. Have you ever heard of Rosa Parks?

Does Texas have the Castle Doctrine?

If so, unload the gun, put it in your bag then carry it to your room. You rented a room. This is now your home/castle. You have every right to defend it.

Good Luck.
