How many magazines do you keep for your pistols?

I try to keep at least 50 rounds worth of magazines for each gun for no other reason than the local college has a practice session (ammo included) that I attend and I don't like having to stop halfway through to reload magazines.

For my SHTF guns, I have quite a bit more.

I have at least ten magazines per pistol, with more than that if they're >10rds. No magic in the number - ten just seemed like a good number that should ensure that I have them available should any nasty legislation try to ban their future sale at some point down the road.

Keep the extra mags.

It depends on the gun or level of anticipated use for it.

For example, my Beretta Model 20 has 2 magazines, which is plenty.

For serious guns, however, 12 is minimum. If the gun has a capacity over 10 rds, then 24 is better.

As mentioned, magazines can wear out, get damaged or get lost. Suddenly, a gun that made sense as a 17+1 capacity 9mm makes less sense as a 10+1

Rifles like AR's, should have 20 mags plus, especially now.

Keeping only enough ammo on hand to load your guns is not very wise.

Again, it's caliber or mission dependent. The .25 acp's one box of 50 is plenty (for me) as it's not a very serious gun. But a "serious" handgun should have as a bare, bare, bare minimum of 200 rds on hand at all times.

A serious rifle, 500 rds.

.

I have lots of 1911 mags, but that's because I like to shoot, not stuff magazines. So, I use my UPLULA mag loader and load 'em all up first, then I can shoot all my 1911's for quite awhile before I have to break and reload 'em. That loader's the best thing I ever bought, my arthritic thumbs love it!

I need more mags for the High Point carbines, my Bersa Thunder .380, and my FEG PA-63. A few more 10/22 mags wouldn't hurt either.

I only have one semi auto so its not really a priority for me to keep a lot of magazines. Only have the one for it.

I do it somewhat differently - while I number them, after function testing, I prefer to use one until it quits and then go to the next one, and so on.......as one goes kaput, I'll replace it and use it last

JMO, YMMV

I have a total of 9 magazines for 4 guns. I either need more magazines or more guns.

5 is the minimum I'm comfortable with for pistols and non-defensive rifles.

When it comes to magazines that hold more rounds than the antis think should be allowed, I can never have enough. I currently have high-cap magazines for several guns I don't own yet but are on my list to acquire in the next few years.

Anyone know where I can get some HK USP 9 Fullsize 10rd magazines for less than MSRP besides CDNN? Thanx.

6 magazines shared between two 1911 Commanders. My wife has 3 magazines for her Officer's Model. We have discarded quite a few "junk" magazines along the way, but these are reliable so we're keeping them. :)

This totally ignores an important feature of detachable magazines: The ability ot reload the gun back up to full capacity as fast as possible.

It's also handy for that one-in-a-million jam that requires a fresh magazine to fix.

Also, if you just have ONE mag, you only have a single shot if you lose the magazine. If your gun has a magazine safety, then you don't even have a single shot, it's just a cool looking paperweight.

Serious people with serious handguns have 6 as the extreme bare minimum; 12 is better.

I have about 24 mags for two guns I don't even own yet (12 each). The ones I DO own are "low-capacity", so I only have two (1911) and seven (Kahr) for those.

I figured (when I was worried about it) I could always buy the guns whenever I got around to it as long as I had the non-neutered mags for 'em.

i only keep 3 right now....i should probably switch to 5 though just dont have the extra cash right now

I thought about stocking up on magazines...when the next gun show arrives in town. Are "ProMag" brand any good? I saw some at the last gun show...(they even had a Beretta M9 magazine that holds 32 rounds)...

Need your opinion on this brand...for I plan to stock up.

I cannot imagine a situation (survivable) in which I would need more than my 3 mags per gun...

How about 50 shots for accuracy timed.... I agree, defensively speaking if I need more than the 5 shots in my BUG I'm pretty sure I should have started running sooner. If I should survive such an encounter I would definately have my "fight or flight" reactions checked.

Generally 6. The club I belong to has an informal shoot on Wednesdays that requires 6 mags.
