How many magazines do you keep for your pistols?

I keep 3 for my 9mm...

One stays at home with special loads for the bad guy, the other two get to go to the range and play...

40, between 3 - 1911's
12 for the S&W 645
5 for the Sig 226
and just 1 spare for the Beretta .25
no spares for the p-38 just the one it came with
same for the 1907 Savage

Serious people with serious handguns have 6 as the extreme bare minimum
SERIOUS......SERIOUS.......EXTREME........DANGER WILL ROBINSON !
Wow. What did I do with that serious tinfoil hat?
My dozens of handguns must be comedians. ;)

Yes, SIX is bare minimum for a serious gun.

That does NOT mean you carry 6 magazines around with you daily. That's an entirely different question that was not asked.

Six would allow 2 sets of three or 3 sets of two, either of which should work for concealed carry.

Six allows a "full load out" for an IPSC match or for taking a gun class. (or would you rather spend your time reloading your one or two magazines when everyone else is still at the line improving their skill?)

Let's define "serious," shall we?

A "serious" person with a gun is somone who owns the gun for defensive use and truly understands what that means.

A "serious" person with a gun realizes that magazines can, and do, wear out, get lost or break.

I'll stop now. You either get it or you don't.

At least 6 each for my full capacity 9mms, but am working towards 10 each.
13 each for my 1911s

Wolff springs, followers, and base pads on hand to repair at least five of each type without further shopping.

Since I have a fair share of 1911s; I bought plenty fit with all. These are my Wilson magazines, I've have the Colt magazines put back.

i have 8 for my glock 23, and 9 for my xd service model, but more than anything once you get a good base number of mags, is to stock up on mag springs. i replace my mag springs when needed, and they are like brand new mags. i have had the same mags for my xd for years, change the springs when they need it, and there has never been a reason to replace the mag itself.

i have that many mags, for when i go to training courses, and range trips, so i don't have to load as many mags, and i can focus on what is important and that is the training/ shooting aspect.

My minimum has always been an even dozen. All function tested, with six in use, six in reserve.

As they wear out(haven't worn out a pistol one yet, but have finished a few AR mags off) buy another, test it, and put it in use.

As a side note, I am REALLY glad I bought a dozen mags for my Sig 225 a couple years ago before the massive influx of P6's. I got mine for 15.99 each and I have seen used ones go for anywhere from $40-60. Even saw a set of P225 Pachmayr grips go for $55 used. I gave some of those away before the P6's...What some people will pay for stuff amazes me sometimes.

For my 1911 I have 6 and for my Glock 19 3 clinton mags and 2 promag full capacity. I would like to get about 4 more for the 1911 and 5 g19 and 5 g17 w/+2 for the Glock.
I am getting 10 - 30 rnd USGI mags for an AR I don't even have

I took a class with my 1911 and brought 8 mags- (all I owned at the time) I would have liked a couple more. classes, competitions, matches, there are tons of reasons that a good number of mags can really make life easier.

"Six would allow 2 sets of three or 3 sets of two, either of which should work for concealed carry."

I only have 4 for my Rohrbaugh. Boohoo, I'm not serious. <sniff>

I do have 6 for my FNP-45, but I don't know if I can afford to feed them. That would take 89 rounds - 1 x 14 and 5 x 15. Actually I don't have 6 mags yet and don't have a FNP-45 either - I was delayed Friday and it's sitting at the dealer 100 miles away along with the 3 mags.

Basically Ive been collecting HiCaps ever since AWB #1. I have literally thousands aquired from overseas and domestically. Its my hedge fund so dont ask. I have drum mags for 1911s and even some original 30 rnd Thompson mags. Just about all my mags are for guns I dont and never will own.

For my shooters I like to have at least three. That way when Im carrying I have two spare. That said though I have 100+ for every magazine fed weapon I own. Which is two, a 1911 that I have 7 officers sized magazines for as well as over 100 standard size 1911 mags, 150 or so 10 rnd, and a few drums. The other is my 10/22 which I couldnt even count how many I have for that.

Depends on the gun. It goes from two for my Ortgies vest Pocket (which is a range only gun), to four for a little Llama IX-III in .32 ACP (another range gun) to several dozens for my assorted 1911s. Long guns also vary. My old Remington Model 742 has three, two factory, and one high-cap. My M14s (Class 3) have dozens, for each.

As I don't expect to be reduced to using a 1928 production .25 ACP handgun for CCW anytime soon, I just keep a spare OEM mag, so that the gun can stay up and running if the original fails. I have varying numbers on all of my semi-autos, mostly due to cost and availability. Some are hard to come by. Ever tried to find a cheap Lahti magazine? Or mags for a Reising SMG that weren't pushing $100.00? Same with 30 round USGI mags for an M2 Carbine.

I have two 1911s , I have around 11 or 12 magazines for them. I have 7 mags for my Glock 21SF. Usually the pistols I use more have the most magazines. You can never have too many. Even if you do have too many, they are an excellent barter item. I traded an old oak rifle cabinet for 6 Wilson Combat ETM magazines. My shooting buddy shoots 1911s as well, and if he happens to run into issues with his mags, he can always come borrow mine. Its good to have spares anyway. You can put a few in your car/truck, go-bag, etc.. When I carry my 1911s , I usually carry two spare 10 round mags in my go-bag just in case I need them.

Mags are expensive now, unless you are LEO. I knew of a guy that bought a truck load of Glock 17 magaizines before the 1994 AWB. After the ban went into effect, the prices of hi-cap mags sky rocketted. He sold the ones he bought and made a very considerable profitt.

I usually buy one here and there when I find them.
