"hunting caliber advice needed
hi i have the following rifle calibers: 22, 22wmr, 243, 30/30, 300sav, 7.62x54r.

i have a couple of questions and need some advice

1. what calibers am i missing if any to hunt game in N america if im within the individual calibers limitations?

2. do i really need a 223/222, 30/06, or 270 with what i already have?( if money werent an issue i would buy anything , but with that being said am i covered in most hunting situations)"
Quoted.

Here is my opinion, I have one just like everyone does and mine stinks too...

The 22rf is great for small eating stuff.
The 22mag, in my view, is expensive for what you get and not necessary with your weapons line up. But you have one, so you must like it.
The 243 will cover anything that the 222/223 can do,maybe with a bit more on target than is needed. Very suitable for almost anything you will hunt in the lower 48.
The 30-30, I have no problem with it. Very handy weapon. You have it, I wouldn't.
The 300 Savage will cover just about every big game in the lower 48 very well. Some are bolt guns and some are levers, My preference is the bolt type.
The 7.62 russky... The round is every bit as suitable for all tasks as any 30.06. The weapons run the gamete from something that is best used to mix concrete to a fine weapon. I don't know you weapon. If it fits closer to the first, think about a replacement.

If you are planning on going after big moose or trophy elk or some of the big bears up north, a big mag 30 or better would be in the mix.

Depending upon your views, a light little AR would be a good addition in my view. But to each their own.

Over all, I feel you have a well rounded collection. Now if you are not loading, think about it. It will add greatly to the versatility of what you have.

Caliber-wise, you are good. However, if your 7.62x54r is the cheap surplus variety and you don't reload, then a more modern bullet in a .30 caliber range might be better suited for game.

I think your covered from squirrels up to large deer, but I'd rather have a larger caliber for anything larger.

It would be hard to afford buying 5 or 6 more calibers, I'm suggesting a 12 gauge.
It gives you the ability to hunt all types of birds. (that are legal to shoot) When you want to hunt larger game, a slug is basically like a .73 caliber, 437.5 grain bullet. (sort of, almost, maybe, slightly, possibly, kind of similar) :)

I thought 7.62x54R was a .30 caliber, or did I miss something...............

Old .30 cals in Europe are .311" (303, 7.62x39 and 54) in America they are .308" the two are not interchangable. .308 cals have a vasly wider range of avalible bullets.

It is, but ammo for the Mosin Nagant is usually plain ol' ball ammo. 'Might not be the best for hunting.
Sellier and Bellot makes makes 7.62x54R with a 180 gn soft point bullet. The case is boxer primed and fully reloadable. Cheaper Than Dirt had some for about $18 for a box of 20 last time I checked.
