My Glock 21 which I paid around $485 for, then it'd have to be my SLR-95 which I paid $389 for back in 2000. Now it'd be much more expensive. But this'd be under the $1,000 mark.
If I had to buy new today for under $1,000, it'd still be a Glock 21, but for a rifle I'd look hard at a Remington 7600 carbine in .30-06 which run around $550, it'd be close to the $1,000 mark if not slightly over. A runner up for the pistol would be a Glock 23 and the rifle would be an SKS.
