Self defense should not result in 3 years of purgatory for the defender. Glad you are all ok.

Wow, good to hear your story. Glad it all worked out in the end.

My other thought was, you could've bought another XD9 while you were waiting! Its such a great gun that you will be happy owning 2 of them. I had a XD40 I sold; that was an excellent pistol and I'd buy another one (in 9mm this time) in a heartbeat.

I could have replaced it, but but I bought other toys instead. A SBH .44, new AR Dissy, and some other toys. The wait is what killed me. It is a very good, reliable, and accurate pistol that XD 9 Service is.

Glad it is over, my regards to your wife and daughter, and thanks for sharing.

And don't be sorry you weren't there brother, be proud and overjoyed you didn't have to be!

I'm glad to hear all is well with you, EB. It's a shame you had to wait three years before you could truly feel that you were out from underneath the whole situation. I don't mean to be intrusive so don't feel obligated to answer, but how is your wife handling things? If it was harrowing for you it must have been doubly so for her. As others have mentioned, don't behere. It's just like I tell all of my male friends; "you are not omnipresent. The best thing you can do to protect your wife/girlfriend is teach her to protect herself", which is exactly what you did. Cheers, and may you and your wife continue to live peaceable lives from here on out.at yourself up for not being t

Eb1, Glad to hear all is well and I think we are all anxious to hear your (or rather your's and your wife's story), when you're ready and everything is clear to tell it, that is.

Out of curiousity, what state are you in? I've often worried about being in a situation that is similar, but take comfort (be it possibly a false security) that I live in a state that normally doesn't prosecute self defense (Arizona), just curious how pro-gun/anti-gun the state is regarding laws.

Eb, you seem to be handling all of this very well. I hope your wife is in as good of shape over it all. Very happy the whole mess is coming to a close for your family.

EB glad everything worked out okay. My only shooting incident was in 1979, and although I was a cop on duty, it still was most unpleasant - and didn't go away for years afterward. Anyone that takes that life/death situation lightly should say a prayer of thanks that they're never involved in one.

In retirement now for over 16 years I still do not carry a weapon. I have all the permits and do keep a weapon nearby but I won't carry one unless I ablsolutely have to (and thanks to say, that day hasn't come yet....).
No one is immune from crime. I hope you don't have a situation presented where you need to defend a life and are without a way to accomplish that. I have seen too many cases where a victim would still be alive had they been able to defend themselves.

The wheels of justice move very slowly, I speak from personal experience. Your wife did what she had to do given the situation, she is to be thanked and thank you for posting the positive conclusion. It seems at times that there is no justice and the system is broken. Thank you for showing that there is hope for our legal system even if it moves with the speed of a glacier at times. I hope you and yours are never placed in such a situation again. I have recently retired (after 22 years as a Police Officer) I carry every day. I know the evil that people can and will do to others. Be Safe...

Thank you for sharing this. Please pass along my positive thoughts to your wife, your family and yourself. Prayers for your healing and a positive future.

As the police were leaving the head detective was standing there, and I asked if he had heard if the man had died. He replied , "I haven't heard any news on the victim." I replied back in a very stern voice, "WE are the victims. This is my house. We didn't go looking for this mess, that man brought it to us." At that time he looked hard at me and nodded. My wife later mentioned that he was the officer that made the choice not to pursue charges against her.

The fact that you had to say that makes me want to puke.

What a waste of time and resources. The more I think on it, the more I am in agreement that this country is beyond broken. Police cannot be punished for their idiocy, nor can the criminal; the law abiding citizen, however, seems to be the target/victim of both parties.

:banghead:

It is really scary to think what problems can arise from a clearly justified self defense shooting. I wonder how often an honest citizen uses his gun and never calls the cops.

Thank you for sharing your personal story with us. I wish you well and hope you never have to experience that again.
