I've got a Mod. 60-3 (3" barrel and adjustable rear sight). Is this a J-frame?

Thanks...

Target sights seem a bit odd on a J frame, but those guns make a neat package for a combination of carry and informal target shooting. And they are pretty scarce, so are, or will be, of interest to collectors as well.

I walked right by a a model 50, (Model 60) Chiefs Special Target several years ago at a little gun show.

Halfway down the aisle I realized what I had just seen and ran back to buy it!

Too late!
Already in another guys sweaty hand with money in the other one.

The adjustable sight stainless-steel Model 60-1 was only made in limited numbers in 1986, then again in 1990 as the 60-4 with a full lug barrel, and both models are scarcer then frog hair.

You got a real rare gem there, no matter which one it is!

I spent about a year and a half looking for an older Model 60 3" target (hahaha) and finally bought one of the new ones and THAT took 6 months to find. Being a .357 it lets me load some awfully hot +P .38 Specials. One of my best revolvers. It's hard to fathom how a 3" barrel groups so well.

3" J frames are very cool...they look like a miniature service revolver, to me. They can be very accurate, too.

I had the 2" Model 60 with adjustable sights. Found I could shoot my standard sighted 442/642 just as accurately.

Sold the 60 for too little money (not much demand then) but wish I still had it.

The 3 inch is by FAR my favorite barrel length. Handy as all get out and very accurate. I have several Colts in 3 inch and a couple smiths.

My often carried, much loved 60-4. Almost traded it away last year, but thankfully I came to my senses.

That is one sweet looking Model 60! The full lug 3" barrel is perfect for that gun. Years ago, before S&W offered such a J frame like yours, I had a Rossi Model 88 in .38 Special that had all the same elements of making for a great Kit Gun. All stainless steel, a 3" barrel, along with an adjustable sight, it made for a comforting companion on many a hike through the woods.

I liked the stock grips that came on my 3" 60 Pro below so much, I bought some for my other J-frames, too. The 60 Pro, upper left below, was only a few $ more than the standard 3" version shown earlier - less than the grip's cost. It handles beautifully, is quite accurate, and has very little recoil with the hottest rounds I have shot in it - +P .38 Special 158gr LHPSWCs. Although I am not a fan of it's Tritium Night Sight, I still haven't changed it out for a HiViz... yet!

PS Great looking find, judgedelta!

One of my favorite revolvers is my SW 60-15. I changed the front sight, added a higher rear sight blade, and changed the grips to make it my perfect field carry gun. My daughter now owns my previously owned 36-6, same configuration in .38 special and blued. These little guns are so accurate that I actually sight mine in at 50 yards with mid-range .357 125 grain Remington Golden Sabers.
