L1A1 "Charging Communist" Figure 11 target, iron sights, 600 mts
L42A1 "Charging Communist" Figure 11 target, optic sights 800 mts
L7A2 (aka M240) 48" targets , plunging fire in SF (Sustained Fire mode) 1500 mts

ya take all the fun out of it when i can't include :cuss: artillery, there goes the 5 and 3 inch, so now i am limited to .50 bmg. 2100 yds, verified by radar operator, took out killer tomatoe with 10 rd burst. now ya did not say that had to be single shot :neener:.

but with my worn out k98 450 yds iron sight
have yet to get down and dirty with my hakim, picked it up when snow started, waiting for spring, and same goes with the cetme
romy m69, 200 yds iron sight
.45/70 marlin, 145 yds iron sight, 350 gr

other than that, my bifoculs mess me up with open sights, so i got no other excuse.

I don't know what the range was, this was long before range finders were available but I shot a deer one time, by the time I got to it there was nothing left but a few bones and hair.

Seriously, 600 yds with an 87 gr spitzer 25-06.

I've killed a couple of deer at approximately 250 yards with a Browning BAR in .300WM.

I hit a red tack dead on in the center of a bullseye at 150 yards from the prone position with a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington with a Weaver 4X scope.

This was nothing but luck as I believe that shot is beyond the inherent accuracy of that rifle. But it was one shot. I quit after that one.

Back in the Corps...
I shot the M16A2 out to 600 meters and the M60E3 out to 1000 meters. I wish I had some of the ranges around here that they have in the military!

I limit the shots I take on game to prevent wounding......having said that 190 yards on a bull Elk with a 7mm Rem Mag.

On paper I would regularly shoot at 400 yards when I was in Alaska; Fairbanks had a great range.

1,300 yards to hit a man-sized target, with Long Branch Number 4 Mark I*, elevated micrometer sights, Mark VII .303 military ball ammunition.

We used surveying equipment to set up the target at the maximum calibrated range on the rear sight. I make a game of that with old military rifles, sometimes shooting quite a few rounds ("ranging shots") before I finally score a hit at maximum calibrated range. But sometimes I make it on the first try.

Coke can at 200 yards with my Mosin Nagant 91/30. First shot, plain iron sights. Tried it again multiple times and couldn't do it. I'm not the best shot either, so I call that one luck but it's still fun to say I did it.

M-16A2, targets to 600 plus meters, in combat I never measured the distances.
M-249 to 600 plus meters on targets.
M-60 to 800 plus meters.
A groundhog years ago at 300 plus yards with open sights, one shot with my mini-14, I think some luck was on my side that day.
A coffee can at 65 plus yards with a lorcin .380, that wasnt easy. Although easier with my glock.
The list goes on, maybe later Ill add more.

Steel silhouettes out to 900+ yards at Storm Mountain, with an accurized Remington 700 VSSF in .308, shooting Federal GMM 175gr BTHPs.

Longest shot on live game was a whitetail buck at approximately 160 yards, with a Remington Model Seven, also in .308, shooting 150gr Remington Core-Lokts. Don't get many long shots in the wooded hills of Pennsylvania.

"Woodchuck, 450 yards with a Bishop-Stocked and glass-bedded Savage 110, 30-06 and 2.5X Weaver scope. I handloaded 150 grain Remington Bronze Points on a CH H-Press with CH dies. It was around 1961, when I didn't know it wasn't possible to shoot woodchucks that far away"

i had a similar experence "back in the day", it was late 1960's, early 1970's, it was with an iron sighted winchester M94 in .30-30 winchester, it was over 300 yards, but i dont rember the exact range, but it was at a groundhog standing in a field.

little doe 360 yards when i was 15
30-06 remington model 721

Legionnaire "Don't get many long shots in the wooded hills of Pennsylvania"

got that right, i was lucky i could clearly see that far let alone have deer out there

This one time... at band camp... I drew a bead on the moon and fired about 40 rounds at it.

So the longest shot I ever tried was about 93,000,000 miles.

I don't know if I scored any hits.

I shot my friends pickup with an AR (he bet me I couldn't). Don't know how far but I was using an Aimpiont ML-2 and the red dot could hide the truck parked at a 90 degree angle. Bullet did not penetrate bedside but left a nice dent. Truck 1968 Ford F100, bullet M193 ball, gun M-forgery.

whitetail at 413 yds. laser ranged. 270 win 130 gr sst. broke his back & dropped on the spot. elevated blind & a solid rest. would i try it again, i don't know but everything felt good at that time. no wind & plenty of time. i really prefer them much closer but it was the last day of rifle season & i had been practicing quite a bit through the summer so i felt quite confident with the shot.

Doe at 90 yrds with my Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag. Perfect Lung shot. Scrub 6 Point 304 yrds lasered, neck shot. .270 win
