Longest distance did you ever shot regardless of caliber??

1020 yards, at a 2 foot high by four foot wide steel gong, with a heavy barrel Ruger M77 in .308 with a 10 power scope.

I went to a metallic sillhouette match with a relative, just to watch, and got invited to shoot a round for fun. Well, I guess embarrassing myself like that in front of a bunch of real shooters was kind of fun. I did manage to hit at least one of each animal, so it could have been worse.

After, he cranked some more elevation into the scope, and let me take a crack at the thousand yard gong. Shooting with elbows on a bench, I missed the first two, hit with the next three in a row once we got the wind figured out. Pretty fun to be able to watch the bullet splat, then wait for the clang to come back. Ammo was handloads with 190 grain match hollow points, and it seemed like they took quite a bit of time to get out there.

Non-Firearms

Cowbird bird on top of an 8ft sapling at 40yds with ball bearing. First shot.

Walking stray cat with a blowdart gun at 25 yds. I never did see anymore paw prints on that Mercedes (I wish it had been my Mercedes).

600 yds on Kd course 30-30 Krag w 1901 sight,no windage 36of 40 on the paper 25 were in the black Bullet was Sierra 175 Match 44.5 gr w760 at approx 2300fps

about 6-700 with a m60. Hit the panel I was aiming at with the first and second rounds, the rest went high and right. (tank panels aren't small so it's not that big of an accomplishment)

600 meters with my M1A,scoped and bipod'd...nothing over 200 yards since i sold it and havent been back to the good range..but i am looking forward to seeing what i can do with my new PTR 91

custom Rem 700 to m24 specs,
7.62x51 10x optic.

600, and 700 meter head shots, and 800m center mass hits on iron maidens.

There's a huge difference between making a first-round hit on a target, and lobbing rounds out there - even if you have good data - and correcting based on spotted misses.

For the former, I've made first-round hits on steel with 6.5x47, .260, 7RM, .308, 338LM from 600-1000 yards. Might have made a few first-round hits at 1350 with the 7, 260, and 338.

For lobbing bullets out there and eventually getting hits, here are my best:

.260REM: 1670 yards, less than a 2' square target (NRAWC NM)

7RM: 1850 yards (milled), 3' square target (NRAWC NM), also hit mile target

.338LM: 1760 yards (mile), approx 3' circle (Logan NM)

.308: 1350 yards (Logan NM)

223, 12" SBR TA11 ACOG, 700 yards.

I can finally make a post in this thread ... :D ... 600 yards last weekend with a .300 Win Mag (208gr A-MAX) ... first shot ever at that distance and I scored a 9 which means I was inside the 8-1/2" diameter ring. Not bad for a newbie with a rifle that I've only shot at a 100 yard range prior to last Sunday.

:)

Paper:
540 meters at a competition a couple of weeks ago. Pretty new to long-range shooting (and this forum) so far. Hit six out of six in a target 40 x 60 cm (about 16 x 24 inches). Lying with a Harris bipod and a borrowed customjob on a Husqvarna 1640 action in 6,5x55 AI. Getting a very similar rifle built for myself at the moment. A 1000-meter event is planned in three weeks :) Hopefylly the new gun will be ready and broken in by then.

Hunting:
A deer at 100 meters, never felt comfortable shooting further than that. Hoping that the new rifle and lots of training will change that. Missed a boar the other day running at a fast but steady pace at 30 meters :what:

Handgun:
A crow with a scoped Ruger MkII at 45 meters.

So far, my longest hits are:

500 yds at a 12" gong using a Mod.1871 Buffalo Classic (.45-70 Gov't) using mid range soule sight.

200 yds at an 8" gong using the same model rifle with a Lyman peep sight.

Back when I was a kid, I took the head off a sparrow at about 150 yards using an old open sight .22LR boys rifle. It was more luck than skill, but it impressed my friends.

420 yards, Browning BLR in .308 with a Leupold 2-7x.
First hit the snow in front me me (I was lying down), second shot mortally wounded elk.

The shooting range I go to only goes up to 100yds...

Dont worry me too . . . I wasn't going to say anything to get laughed at.

But since Im here.

100 yards with a DPMS AR-15 Iron sights.

100 Yards with a scoped Ruger 10/22
didn't get any sort of group just flyers all over the place, I gave up quickly.

I reguarly shoot at 500 yards out at the ranch. We set up milk gallon jugs filled with water. I shoot a sako 30-06 and a ar-15 bull barrel with 24" barrel by dpms, at these ranges.

the 06 hits much more consistently in any kind of wind, and with no wind, both guns can nail the jugs roughly 7 out of 10 times when my finger is on the trigger. better or worse for other fingers, i'm sure.

I've killed yotes at that same ranch, at those same ranges, though not all hits were first shot. the other day i shot 15 times at this coyote running across an open, cut wheat field slighly covered in snow. the wind was heavy but from my back. you could see the rounds hit the snow around the animal. TOTAL SHEER LUCK had the 16th round penetrate the upper chest cavity. I was shooting at almost the same point of aim. at that range, with such a light bullet, I knew my odds were akin to a casino.

that same day, in that same wind, at that same field, just under 500 yards, on the 4th shot I killed another yote with the '06.

Because of this, I have an ar-10 on order and plan on using that more for long range yote and hunting, and keep the ar-15 for gophers and long range nonwindy days.

I want a 338 lapua big time, though!!! Sako TRG

I have not killed deer past 500 yards. I have killed one at 445 yards, slightly uphill above tree-line in Nevada Area 13. Neck shot, first shot, no wind. Was awesome, I was 18.

I've only killed 1 deer under 100 yards, in 2008. The rest (less than ten, i'm young still) have been between 200 and 350 yards. I zero at 250 or 300, depending on where i'll hunt.

Three long shots that I want to remember:
all one shot hits;
1. 405 yards on whitetail doe. .243 remington 100 grain core-lokt 3x9 scope
2. 415 yards on whitetail buck..25-06 remington 120 grain core-lokt 3x10 scope
3. 155 yards on dog fox with .357 mag open site revolver. (on rest)

GPS distance check.

Not a rifle shot, but one shot hit on a ground hog at 185 yards with a 38 special S&W 3" model 36 iron sights. Had five witnesses . Longest rifle shot 450 yards on a ground hog 25-06 Rem 700 with 75 grain hollow point.

Jackrabbit-sitting 143 long paces, downhill, at dusk, Ruger Mk 1 4" barrel .22 LR right behind the eye. Okay, it was luck....
or
3 dove, 1 shot, Browning Sweet 16, 6 shot about 25 years ago in Aguila, AZ. Not too far away, but come on 3 for 1?

1,349yrds with a custom 338Lapua mag. 6.5-20 Ziess in Badger mounts. 5 shots 6 3/4" center to center, off a solid concrete bench with rifle in a caldwell front rest and protector rear bag 6 0z trigger with a rem action and a kriger 28" barrel. H&S precision stock

My longest shot on target was 250yards. This was during the last deer season. I much perfer 150 yards or less.

Not my longest but my best. After a buddy missed a 1/2 gallon carton of milk at 150 yards 4 times with his 30-06 I drew my 38 spec 3" J-frame smith, cock the hammer and fired a single shot.
The wad cutter hit the carton dead center. I put the gun back in the holster and smiled. Knowing darn well I could not make that shot again in a million years.

I was shooting M60 down range at Ft. Stewart, GA. You just shot downrange in your lanes an I got bored with that at an aimed all the way down at what looked like a stump at the tree line, only guessing at about 900 meters...I know I was hitting it because the stump started to smoke from the tracers,....they had to shut the range down for fear of a fire getting started....also shot longer with the .50, but not sure how I was hitting.

I think it's only been 200 yards. It was with a 7mm-08, 30-30, and .22's (at melons).

I haven't found any ranges longer than 100 yards, and my friend's property is only good for 200 yard shots.
