I'm sure this is basic gunsmithing 101 but how do you take the rear sight of a Plainsfield M1 Carbine off?

Based on what I've found I know I have to move it from left to right but how?

I don't want to just bang it but then if that's what I have to do I'll be more willing to try.

I'm going to install a scope mount that replaces the rear sight and probably use a red dot.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Support the receiver.

I'd take the stock off and use a block of wood or something to support the receiver as near to the base of the sight as possible and then use a punch and hammer with care and precision. Be careful if you use a vice not to crush anything.

Thanks guys

I really appreciate the quick response and I guess it really is just a good smack at the right place!
