Congrats! 35 Remington is one of the greatest woods deer cartridges of the south! I’ve had a 336T since 1964!
Nope, 30-30 and 35 REM are two totally different cartridges.

Question: Is it a straight stock (Texan model)? If so, you have a somewhat rare Marlin 336. I don’t think Marlin made the 35 REM 336 Texan much after 1964. (I stand to be corrected if in error).
If so, your Dad really left you a gem!!!! And should you ever decide to sell it, make sure you get a premium for it!!!!!! Not that you would ever sell it!
But either model, you have a great hunting rifle made by one of the greatest lever action company’s of all time!
Again, congrats!!!!!
Thanks for the information, as for the Marlin 336 according to wikipedia the serial number on the rifle begins with a W that sets the manufacture date to 1963, how can I find if it is a Texan?

@Satvader
I use AmmoSeek as @Seedy Character had recommended earlier.
https://ammoseek.com/
If you set up an account with them and do a search for .35 Remington you can receive notifications if the ammo comes into stock somewhere that AmmoSeek monitors. They will send you an email. If they send you a notification your search for that item may be turned off so you may want to reset it if you don’t want to buy from the vendor that AmmoSeek alerted you about.

Also, since you are in California (I am as well) I recommend you go to a local gun / ammo dealer and see what they require to receive ammo on your behalf. You can have ammo shipped to you if it goes to an FFL.
Also, in this “wonderful” :confused: state on must have a gun “Registered” in their name at the address where you live to be able to receive the ammo from the dealer. Ask your local dealer / FFL about this.

Good Luck and Welcome to The High Road. :)

Thanks for all the information I will contact my local gun shop, and yes they are people selling 35 rem on gunbroker.com and I believe they will be sending to FFL in California.

Do NOT use .30-30 rounds in the 35 Remington or you will hurt and/or kill yourself and destroy the firearm. Always and only use ammunition designated for use in any firearm by the manufacturer. Do NOT deviate.....

Thanks for your advise I will be very careful with safety top priority

The reintroduced Marlin Texan of late manufacture by Remington had the gold cowboy. This is a Texan and under the butt plate in pencil is written Texan on the stock. Mine is .30-30, circa 1973.

Up closer to the receiver showing the period correct Weaver I bought for it when I purchased the rifle new.

A.35 Remington Texan is a desirable Marlin to own. That is a very effective cartridge and while not stocked as commonly as .30-30 it is not rare, easy to reload for and will be available again when all of this current foolishness is over with.
