Military considers recruiting foreigners

Just another example of a job Americans will not do at the wage an employer is willing to pay

Umm, I am perfectly willing to do the job. I figure if I get out right now I would have to make $30-35 an hour to equal my current paycheck, so while not rich, I do okay.

The xenophobia on here is insane. I am no fan of illegal immigration myself to wit http://frenchyrants.blogspot.com/2006/12/at-last-meaningful-immigration-bill.html That said, everyone I have met in the military that is an immigrant is chasing the American dream and doing it LEGALLY! Whilst protecting your freedom to be xenophobic from your comfy office chair no less. I have served with folks from:

Taiwan
Japan
Phillipines
Nigeria
Ghana
Germany
England
Costa Rica
Mexico (one was a former illegal who got a green card)
Honduras
El Salvador
Cuba(boat crossing as a child)
Haiti
Trinidad
Kenya
Somalia

And a whole host of other countries. Very few go back home, and the ones that do make sure they are dual citizens. These are the folks who go to night college, jump through all the INS hoops, and who ultimately want to achieve the ideal vision of America that still exists overseas.

I hear all the anti-immigration people on here saying that they want hard working people to immigrate, work hard, pay taxes, be legal, and assimilate. These folks are doing that. Maybe you really do not want that and our military should all be 6'1" blue-eyed, blond-haired, strapping young boys who love killing furriners, apple pie, and Hank Williams? Keeps our culture pure right?

Biggest problem I have had and one the military needs to address is this. Guy A joins and speaks english passably but has trouble reading. He then gets a job that requires him to read a tech pub in english to fix an airplane. I took him to task for not knowing what one word meant, and if he didn't know what that word was how could he possibly know what to do to the part in question. No big deal since as an inspector I am paid to catch reading and doing mistakes that are usually made by your garden variety native American kid. The issue was he didn't know what he was reading and did not ask for help.

Safeguards exist, foreign nationals are restricted as to what specialties they can enlist in which is why I work with a lot since non-avionic airplane work is not exactly a state secret. There are less safeguards against home-grown traitors like Johnnie Walker, that scum who fragged his officers and is on death row, or a stupid kid from California who enlists in the Navy, flees to Austria, and then sell secrets to Israel. All of which he did over a girl. Ariel Weinmann, you should be on death row too.

I have served this country for 22 years and have served with many soldiers of many different nationalities ie. Britian, Vietnam, Baliese, Argentina, Cuba, Africa, Russia, Germany, China, Mexico and on and on. I respected and appreciated my service with these men (I'm INFANTRY). I know things are rough out there for recruiters. I know I did that duty as well. I saw first hand the apathy the citizens of this country has for it's Military. When one of my men reached his three years of Military service. I took them personally to get there citizenship. Hell they earned more than the other 99% of the parasites who never did thier duty.
Anybody can give a reason, but NONE have an excuse. Except for those whom did it. If you don't believe me we can show you our scares and medals.

I guess I should have better stated my earlier comment. I dont have a problem with foreigners enlisting under the current system. But I do not like the idea of the military actively recruiting overseas.

Hi, ho, Art,

You probalbly oughta lock this string.

Times change and there we are justifying citizenship with 4 years of honorable service (servantry?) Carry the trays into officer country and back.

Harumph.

Rant.

Those pineapples were real people.

They worked their a$$es off so that that they could become citizens.

We US of A ens don't care. As long as the coffee gets served.

That is what we have become.

The empire us doomed.

lol

"The argument of "well we are doing it already".........crappy logic guys, its not good enough."

how about it ain't broke don't fix it.

and all you guys with real world experience actually working with the evil funniners how dare you disturb the fantasys of the xenophobes with reallity. :neener:

not

the first time i've been so assesed. sometimes though i take it as a compliment. depends on who says it and why.

have served with many soldiers of many different nationalities ie. Britian, Vietnam, Baliese, Argentina, Cuba, Africa, Russia, Germany, China, Mexico

One would hope their nationality was American if they're wearing an American military uniform. Or are you talking about serving alongside allied soldiers?

If they're willing to denouce and reject all other loyalties and become American citizens, I don't have a problem with it. But I sure as hell have a problem with relying increasingly on foreign nationals who have sworn no oath and who may or may not decide to be citizens. And I don't count "dual citizenship," it's a crock. My people had to renounce the King of Sweden and the Kaiser of Krautland, and it was a good move all around. But that's probably another issue.

What disturbs me most is how the military will become more foreign-based and focused on foreign recruitment to meet quotas. A scattering of people on citizenship paths is fine, but when that becomes a large portion of your force it's a huge problem. You don't even have to go back to Rome. Look at the problems the Austro-Hungarian Empire had in even putting one military foot in front of the other. The forces were made up of a huge array of nationalities, most of whom couldn't understand each other and who had political axes to grind. Can you envision a US military with an officer corps of American college grads and a large portion of enlisted are Mexicans and folks from the third world? It's a real possibility if we go down this road in earnest. Better that we shut down the standing Army completely before we take that route.

2 of my Cpl's aren't citizens of the US, both of them work for me as Coaches for the Rifle/Pistol Range, Both are pretty darn good shots too :uhoh:

The US Military has been accepting non citizens for some time now.

Not all the white farm boys from Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska form the US Military like many think... Which is pretty sad, there is about 1-1/2" of the US Population in Military Uniform, ready to go toe-to-toe with the creatures that would other wise take away your "rights".

Personally I'm doing my 20 years in the Corps and moveing to Switzerland, send my retirement check there, as I teach the Swiss; Rifle/Pistol/Machineguns, breaching and advanced explosives... I'm not even Swiss, my wife is, I'm just getting really sick of what is going on here in America, so I'll follow what I say "love it or leave it" :uhoh:

i know several soliders that deployed with us that were not american citizens.
from africa, mexico, puerto rico, only one guy that i know of got his citezenship out of the bunch.

It's easy to scream "xenophobe," but whether you and I like it or not, a huge number of foreigners have come to dislike or even hate us over the past forty years. Allowing foreign allies to come join the US military during the afterglow of WWII was one thing, but encouraging it to make up for domestic recruiting shortfalls now is quite another. Trusting people who hate you, envy you and wish you were dead is rarely a good idea. If we go further and further down this road we're going to pay a heavy price for it.

To Cosmoline

The Soldiers that were Non-Citizens that I knew became citizens. It is almost automatic after three years of Honorable Military Service. I believe that to reenlist (Won't Swear on it) you must be atleast in the process of getting citizenship. Like I said earlier, I saw to it personally to insure they became citizens.
By the way, less than 1% of people in this country whom are eligible served. Ask them why others do their duty. Yes, we are heading the wrong way, but it is an opportunity for others to become citizens.

We have ALWAYS had non-citizens serving in our armed forces. Starting prior to Revolutionary War days and continuing to present. I have served with them. I have helped expedite citizenship proceedings for several. I have regarded them all as Brother Warriors and proven Americans; even when they did not yet have the rights of so-called "Native-born Citizens".

Anybody remember the Lodge Bill of the 1950s? US Army Special Forces was once a majority polyglot of European emigres who spoke English as a second, third, or fourth language. Most of those guys fought multiple tours in S.E. Asia and never did learn to speak more than barely comprehensible English.

We need the new blood, the new patriots, and the new language and cultural skills not currently being produced in our screwed up schools.

The sky is not falling, and the ill-informed need to settle their spring-loaded butts back in their seats.

Lighten up Francis...

yea

"... unless they sign up to kill you.

Something to consider. It wouldn't be the first time the military trained terrorists"

like mcveigh?

any others you can name? particularly looking for the evil furriners that are joining up to learn to kill us

i served in the army with many guys from mexico and cental america. liked them alot better than the army or jail types, and even some of those were good soldiers. your right in the the respect that this is becoming more of a job americans do not want. your either going to have to accept foreign nationals, in numbers, into our military or insitute the draft. i would start with drafting the swat teams first. they are already trained and equiped so cost would be low to press them into service. the germans used police units in ww2 when they ran short of manpower. just tell them to grab there gear and get on the plane. that would work in the short term. it would take a long time to train jimmy and jenny from the block to show up in numbers, that would make any difference in the combat zones. besides when the rich and/or powerful peoples kids get drafted and start coming back home in silver caskets an exit strategy will be found real quick.

Just amazing. Make a statement calling into question the advisability of a policy decision and the next morning . . . . . . presto chango. . . . a xenophobe.

The president theoretically sets foreign policy goals and objectives for the USofA. Congress theoretically funds the action plan which will theoretically achieve those goals and objectives. One action plan is fund a military consistent with anticipated needs. If the military is stretched out of shape doing its assigned tasks then only a few conclusions are available. A>it is over extended. or B>under sized or C>sufficient residents will not voluntarily join the military because they in general do not agree with the understood purpose.

So instead of railing against keyboard xenophobes perhaps we need to A>question why the military is over extended, or B>why the military is underfunded, or C>question what we are doing with our military.

Foreign citizens serving in the US military is a highly charged issue, which could expose the Pentagon to criticism that it is essentially using mercenaries to defend the country. Other analysts voice concern that a large contingent of noncitizens under arms could jeopardize national security or reflect badly on Americans' willingness to serve in uniform.

I was going to make the obvious comparison to the decline of Rome but other posters beat me to it. Some people just plain refuse to learn from history. I proudly served with immigrants on deployment in Afghanistan (Mexican, Brazilian, and Turkish) all were model soldiers. I as well as most others in my unit trusted them fully (the ones you dont trust usually end up walking point) and never questioned their loyalty. How dare anybody that whines about immigrants leeching off resources in America snub their nose at an immigrant serving their host country. I have no problem with an immigrant who came to America legally serving in our Armed Forces, in fact I find it both admirable and honorable. Where I have a problem is with Uncle Sam setting recruiting offices overseas. With this tactic the odds of getting quality, and loyal troops become more dicey. Think about setting up a recruiting office in Iraq only to have an insurgent enlist so he can do his damage from the inside. Another thing to consider is the danger of composing a military full of people with no loyalty or ties to America. People who just see it as a paycheck. We like to think that should Posse Comitatus be suspended that American troops would be less likely to commit acts of evil against their own country men. What about the soldier from Ughanda that just follows orders for the sake of sending a few bucks back home to his family. Kinda scary isnt it? The real problem we need to address is why we dont have enough troops without having to resort to such desperate tactics. Could be the debacle our leadership has led us into in Iraq. Its hard to put your life on the line for a cause you dont believe in, and believe me Iraq has nothing to do with freedom or the preservation of it.

There's a word for this.

BARBARIZATION

Google it and "Roman Army" for some more insights.

and

Just another example of a job Americans will not do

A job the modern Romans of America will not do because they are too busy
lounging on divans, consuming grapes, and cheering the entertainers of the
coliseum. I take absolutely no issue with foreigners who are willing to put
their lives on the line and earn the promise of freedom that many
so-called Americans are throwing away.

Although I will not blame Congress for this trend, I hear there is a bill
currently making its way through that would also give citizenship to
foreigners who've completed college here. Now on the surface that
seems nuts, but what it actually reflects is the couch potato brain drain
going on in this country. Whether our collective mental midget state was
brought about by accident or design is irrelevant. What the Congress does
is still by and large a reflection of what the Roman mob bays and howls for
at the moment. This is why we have native born people with age waivers
and grandparents going to Iraq --and are now looking at supplementing the
ranks with foreigners. The average person in their 20s and early 30s are
not even considering the military, righteous cause in war or not. The most
they'll do is put a yellow ribbon magnet on their car (as long as it doesn't
damage the finish) and call into an AM radio talk show and join the cheer
leaders on what "We should do." There's a certain humorous hypocrisy when
people are on the airwaves one day saying "We should stay the course" in
Iraq, complain about US job exports the next day, and foreigners who
refuse to learn English the next. Day after day of self-gratifying hedonistic
tripe, but they consume and believe it nonetheless.

Have a problem with foreigners in our Military? Then join. Encourage your
native born kids, friends, etc to join. We have too many people who want
someone else to do it, someone else to assume the risk, and someone else to
make the sacrifice. Again, this a reflection of what the US has become.

This brings up a few very interesting ponderings.

1. We've been told over the past few years that the military has been meeting its recruiting and retention goals. Could it be that the Bush administration has been feeding us a line of crap concerning this?

2. What does this say about the United States? Could it be that our young men and women, as a whole, do not consider our country, as it currently exists, to be worth the sacrifices they'd have to make to serve in the military?

3. Maybe we've raised a new generation of wastoids and pansies that are too moronic, cowardly, and lazy to serve.

4. Maybe the way things are in Iraq: the long (and multiple) deployments, the bungling inanities of the Bush administration (as it relates to fighting the WOT), the Congress, the GOP and the Democrats, have made many, who would otherwise enlist, realize that they don't want to place their destinies in the hands of those whose grey matter is the consistency of cottage cheese.

An interesting thing to mention; my step-son just got back from year's deployment to Iraq (al-Anbar provence). Aparently, a lot of the senior non-coms and experienced troopers are NOT going to re-enlist. They're tired of the deployments, and they're really tired of the R.O.E.

They're tired of catching crap every time there's an incident involving a shooting, they're tired of the restrictions placed upon them before they can even engage. They're tired of playing police officer, and want to get back to being soldiers.

My step-son has a few more years left in his enlistment. He's now a seasoned veteran, and will be up for seargent sometime next year; he's already decided that there's no way he's going to put his ass in a sling for four more years of the way things are currently being run.

To be honest, given the way my step-son has described his experience with the Army and his time in Iraq, coupled with my impression of the way things are in this country, there's no way in Hades I'd ever even consider trying to talk him into re-enlisting, and I'll do everything I can to keep my 10 year old son out of the military, too.

Perhaps we cannot convince enough American citizens to enlist to create an armed forces big enough to carry out our policy goals.

If so, we should change our policy goals.
