need input on S&W M&P9

Yeah, I here you there. When I quit shooting Production Division I was only one classifier away from Grand Master. I was hoping the accuracy horror stories were way over blown, so I bought the M&P Pro 9 5" to get back into Production. Myself and two other shooters (one a pretty salty Master) worked on load development and we all shot the gun just to eliminate user error.

Alas, the pistol averaged 5-6 inch groups at 25 yards with various loads from 115 through 147 grain loads. We would find the occasional load that would shoot around 4 inches. Probably good enough for a lot of folks, but not exactly confidence inspiring in my hands. I just can't stand to have a pistol that has mechanical accuracy that isn't as good as my wobble zone.

why would you switch pistols when you were already comfortable (obvious is you were so close to gm) ???

anyway here is my new m&p9
DSCN1077.jpg

going to give it a go and if it doesnt shoot well for me then i guess the wife gets it...

i personally dont play any of teh idpa or ipsc games anymore... got tired of the BS and a group of us (mostly cops and ex military) all switched to what we calll practical tactical.. you basically shoot what you carry (either your ccw or duty weapon) and all scenarios are real life (we had lots of reactive and shoot/no shoot scenarios) and based upon actual real shootings that were discussed in detail..

was a real eye opener for some of the IPSC/IDPA type of folks that wanted to give it a try... they were used to games and this was real life scenarios... we also had scenarios where we ditched the primary weapon (in this case due to mechanical failure of loss of it due to unforeseen circumstances) and had to go to back up weapons (most of us carry a pocket pistol or small j frame in an ankle rig as a backup ... this was an eye opener for folks that never had to go to the backup weapon for actual self defense ...

the m&p is at least point of doorway accurate from just even a M&P bashers perspective and that counts as ok in my book for some folks like my wife... i care that it goes bang each time and that it is relatively accurate... we shall see how accurate my gun is ..

-The functional weak point is the sear, and specifically the sear reset.
...The symptom of this when it starts to happen is intermittent, either doubles, and/or "dead trigger".
The factory fix for this is upgrading from the 1/16th inch Sear Housing spring and plunger to the 1/8th inch one that is current production

I only have the single stack Shield. Great firearm.
Yeh, last one I have seen was pre-owned in top shape for $419. Too bad it was 9x19. I checked...... there was empty space with sign "one box per customer" where ammo in that caliber was.:barf: Screw that man!

I've got a M&P Pro 9, 9c and 40c. I've never had any issue with any of them. I haven't had a chance to test the Pro 9 for accuracy but the two c models are about average for the class. Now my Sig P226 I just picked up is like a laser beam.....

All I can say is Stoeger shot my M&P offhand into about 2.5" or so at 20-25 yards (not measured, but I'm good at estimating target distance) about a month ago. I'm not capable of doing that, but my group sizes don't change whether I'm shooting my old G34, my M&P, several of my buddies' M&Ps, or an M&P with a KKM barrel. Obviously I haven't seen them all, but can't find one that stands out to me as being terribly innaccurate.

Mine had that from the factory... I never took the sear out until I started having the issues at around 13k rounds. I've cleaned it two or three times since then and never had a problem again.

The accuracy issue seems to be highly variable. Some have the issue, some do not. Some writers have posited that it has to do with slightly pre-mature unlocking/tilting of the barrel (and the barrel in an M&P tilts almost immediately upon any reward slide movement). But mine has been plenty accurate as far as I can tell. (Though I'm no bullseye champion.)

was looking at getting an xdm in 9 (already have several xd's) , but just came upon a really good deal on a near new M&P9 (full size) locally (so Face to Face and no sales tax or dealer transfer fees)....

never really paid attention to the M&P series of pistols, since i am a beretta shooter and most of my "plastic" picstols have been glock or xd...

I am starting to see more M&P guns at the ranges , but never stopped to ask questions or shoot one...

input from past or present M&P9 users would be appreciated... for the price i dont think i will past this up (could always flip it if I dont like it) , but help is appreciated on what to expect and what to tweak
I have (3) MP 9mm,full size, shield and 9c compact. All have been flawless and have shot all ammo with no hicups.

i did start to notice the slight grittyness in the trigger pull, but a little jewlers rouge and some polishing has taken care of that!

only thing i could possibly recommend for those with issues for accuracy due to premature downward motion of the barrel is to put in a heavier recoil spring to help slow the cyclic motion of the action. this would allow the bullet to travel through the barrel further before the action starts to move (due to the heavier recoil spring)...

i might try this out if i experience any accuracy issues, but the previous owner (whom has already shot the gun in a couple matches) stated he had no accuracy issues and he is a stand up guy from a local forum and his well know for his shooting abilites at local matches.
