I have 200 of these bullets I want to reload, but my Speer manual does not have the data. They seem to have been discontinued a couple of years ago. If anyone has the data I would appreciate it. They are Speer 44 cal 240Gr soft points #4447. Thanks!

In the SPEER #11 manual the #4447 Soft Point is loaded to the same charge as their three other bullets, the Magnum HP, Magnum SP and TMJ. What Powder and primers are you using? ;)

I'm sure you have considered this, but I will throw it out anyway.

If you are trying to work up an accurate load, I am not sure I would want to use a component that is no longer available. If you end up with a perfect load that is extremely accurate, once you are finished shooting those projectiles, where do you then go from there?

That is the old Half-Jacket 240 discontinued several years ago.

I have a Speer manual or two that has data for them.

However, it would sure help to know what caliber you want to shoot them in?
.44 Spl or .44 Mag?

Also, what powder you want to use?

Regardless of that, my Speer #13 manual says you can load them using existing data for the full jacket 240 SP & HP by reducing the max load by 1 grain.

FYI: You also do not want to download half-jacket bullets below listed starting load velocity as jackets stuck in the bore are a very good possibility.

That is probably the main reason they stopped making them.

My Speer #12 manual has a notation with the 240 gr. bullets stating "these loads may be used with the 240 gr. JSP-SWC (#4447) by reducing maximum charges by one grain".

Sounds to me like Speer bullet #4447 is a 240gr. bullet.

My bad Kainronin confused your bullet count and weight numbers.

Yes, I have considered that. I got them from someone that thought they wanted to reload, but ended up not doing it. I am mainly going to use them for target shooting.

Still no mention of caliber you want to use them in?

Just be aware of what I said in post #4 about the danger of half-jacket bullets and light target loads.
Do not go below suggested starting loads for other jacketed bullets.

No, that is 1 grain under MAX is the Max load.

The start load is the same.

Half-jacket bullets are softer then jacketed bullets so the max is lower due to the bullet being softer and easier to bump up in the forcing cone.

What does it all mean?

1) They regularly wax the Speer Ouija board.

2) If it is 44 mag loads you seek, 24 gr H110 or W296 and roll crimp into the cannelure.
This is accurate in the rifles, powerful in the revolvers, and the most common 44mag published load.

Loading for the .44 Mag. I loaded them with 12.5 of Blue Dot. Yes, you take away one grain from the max charge. The data would be for Blue Dot,
12.3-12.7. Not really looking for the most accurate load with them. Just some rounds to throw down at the range. I got the bullets for free..
