New Battle in D.C. after Heller

I'd like to see what happens when somebody moves into the District of Confusion with a "high capacity" semi-auto that he lawfully purchased in his home state. That could be interesting...
I think that has already happened in the past. When I spoke to the sergeant in the firearms registration section in DC he alluded to someone wanting to bring in some kind of semi auto and I think "California legal" AR or Bushmaster and they told them no.
It was not a name of a firearm I was familiar with and I did not pursue it further since my focus was registering a handgun.

Doesn't Heller want a semi-auto G19 with an extended magazine?

Seems like that would be the best next avenue.
I don't know what his personal firearm is that he may have owned in another state, but according to the sergeant we spoke to in DC handling registrations he said all handguns registered to Special Police are revolvers and Heller is a Special Police Officer.
Not sure which one was addressed in the SC case though, but if it was a Glock 19, then that would make things damn interesting, quick.

Mr. Heller has his own handgun, stored outside the state, which is different from his duty weapon and which he wants to register.

No moves needed; I am sure several members of Congress own semi-autos. It would be very interesting if one of them showed up at the registration office.

What specifically are you referring to?
The NRA was working a case in DC about the time Heller (nee Parker) was introduced. Their case did not go well, and they tried to take over (or derail if they couldn't) Heller. Got kinda ugly.

Senator Jim Webb got his aid in trouble because he left it with him and his aid tried to get into one of the Congressional buildings (the Capitol?) with it....oops.
I asked the sergeant at the DC registration office about this and if Webb had a non-resident handgun carry permit (which he would need to travel to the Capitol with the handgun). He said he did not, but he did not seem to want to talk about the incident much. ;)

Fenty and his minions need to be held in contempt of court and jailed.
Agreed. Just how does this happen? Has it ever happened to an elected official before?
Not sure about Contempt, but he can be sued. In a perfect world, he could be impeached or recalled.

He and Nickles are obviously baiting the Court. That won't stand for long.

There will be lawsuits over writing tests to exercise a right, and there will be action taken on the "physical defect" clause.

I just don't understand why the people giving marching orders to Fenty don't see the handwriting on the wall.

It appears that Fenty has gone off the reservation, else he'd probably not have appealed the DC Circuit decision to SCOTUS in the first place. Daley, Bloomberg, Newsom, and Nutter are probably plotting to give Fenty a proper mayoral blanket party as it is.

In sum, we hold that the District’s ban on handgun
possession in the home violates the Second Amendment,
as does its prohibition against rendering any lawful fire-arm
in the home operable for the purpose of immediate
self-defense. Assuming that Heller is not disqualified
from the exercise of Second Amendment rights, the Dis-trict
must permit him to register his handgun and must
issue him a license to carry it in the home.

The obvious question is, was Heller's handgun semi-automatic? Because they didn't order the district to let Heller register just any gun, they ordered the district to let Heller register "his handguns", and that means whatever type of handgun it is, they HAVE to permit it.

Excellent point, Brett Bellmore - what WAS Heller's handgun? If he has more than one, he can simply say that "this here semi-auto handgun" is the one I want to register, and the one referred to by the SCOTUS opinion. :)
