New models of marlin levers

When my 1894 was threaded, the magazine tube was not set back. There is no reason to do so.

I have Ashley ghost ring sights on it and have absolutely no issue seeing the sights.

i was at a gun show a couple months back and had a friend with me who was looking for a marlin 45-70. about 3 out of 4 that we found had canted front sights. as much as i REALLY want a marlin 357 i will be holding off for quite some time until i can be sure that they have remembered how to make a decent rifle...

Did they finally get their act together to make a decent rifle? Not sure I’d want to buy early production models, their track record on that is not the best.
My son bought a new Marlin .336 for his wife & I noticed right off the bat that the front sight was canted.

Come on .45C, might just have to open the coin purse and expose the moths to sunlight.

After posting I did a search on gun genie and low and behold there’s a.45C available, anybody got info on it?

Give me the stainless/laminate wood in 45 and I'll give one a "shot".

I have been a lever gun fan for a long time, I own an older Marlin 30-30 Model 336TS a "Texan" and a Henry 45-70. I have wanted a lever gun in 357 for quite some time, I will have to see if this new one from Marlin lives up to their old standards if so, there just might be a new lever gun in the "toy box"

With that high MSRP I don't feel nearly as bad dropping $800 on a nearly mint early 80's 1894c last year.

I mean, I still feel bad, but I always figured the used prices would drop once Marlin started producing the 1894c again. But not if the retail price is hovering just under a grand!

My 1895 and another 1895 I looked at in a shop a week ago were both canted. Marlin fixed mine by graciously turning the barrel on a couple more degrees thus canting the rear sight and mag tube in the opposite direction. Super fun guns after you fix them.

I don't understand this. The machined features for attaching front and rear sights to the barrel should be created in the same setup to insure they are parallel to each other.

Seriously, you can't even write that absurdity.

Mine as I received it. Its kind of hard to see in photo's but plain as day holding the gun.

This is how much front windage correction it took to zero it

Mine after it came back from uncle Remmy

After I "fixed" it. Has a dovetail filler in place of the rear sight now.

That's embarrassing to have come back from factory gunsmiths with that result.

By the way I was also looking at the blued 44 mag Henry big boy you see in the background. The top tang sat 1/8" recessed in the stock and the bottom tang was 1/8 proud of the stock. The forend was also noticeably wider on one side than the other. At least the sights were straight.

Talk about over-thinking it. Just make lever guns in .357 magnum, they will sell. They don't have to be special editions or exorbitantly priced, just available. The world has not so radically changed that people want and need 45LC or 44magnums from every maker but have no interest in .357..

I paid $1050 for my Uberti 73 after saving for a year. If I wanted a modern action 357 I'd definitely shell out $1000 for one, even though thats two weeks pay for me. Well made rifles cost well saved dollars.

I have heard that Henry is about to come up with a side feed lever action with steel frame. If, that happend a 357 mag will be a good companion to my Winchester 94 in 45 Colt.

When I impulse-bought my JM 1894C NIB from a sale for $350 about ten years ago I wasn't sure if that was a good deal or if I'd have much use for it. All I've really done is fixed the top edge of the lever as a preventative measure to avoid jamming issues in the future, slicked up the action ever so slightly and put a few boxes of ammo through it at the range. If I put it back in the box it could easily pass for new.

Last week I saw a similar but well worn example sell for $750. The world has gone crazy.
