I just installed a new Timney sear and spring kit on my Ruger 77/17. It works fine if you close the bolt carefully, but if you close the bolt with any enthusiasm the trigger releases automatically. I believe that it is installed correctly. I had to carefully file part of the trigger mechanism to make the safety properly engage(as most everyone does who buys this kit), but I do not think this should cause the problem. Please share your thoughts......
Thanks

had this happen to my 77/22 but it was with a rifle basix replacement trigger. turned out there was a bit of the stock contacting the trigger keeping it from fully engaging (is that the right word?)

For me, it was the material slightly rearward of the trigger-guard on the inside. I had a synthetic stock with the trigger guard molded to the stock, not sure if yours is wood.

If you manually pull the trigger forward (opposite of firing) when you lift the bolt handle, does the same problem occur when you close the bolt quickly?

Lifting the bolt should move the trigger forward, which is what was not happening properly with my rifle. It was keeping it teetering on the edge of firing (too far rearward after bolt lift)...

I guess the easy test would be take the rifle out of the stock and see if you still have the problem.

I believe there are some fixes for this over on rimfirecentral.com
the ruger triggers are very easy to overdo it when filing; I did a trigger job on the stock parts, and even though I did not use over 10 pulls with a file, it came down to ounces on the pull
