I just purchased a Ruger 77/17 and wanted to improve the trigger. I have been researching several options and I feel overwhelmed trying to decide what to do. New spring/sear kits are cheap (timney)/(volquartsen), but I have my doubts. What do you guys recommend I do? New here by the way. Thanks

Welcome to THR!

I have a 77/17 and a Volquartsen sear/spring kit. It made a big difference in trigger pull, and there is only a slight amount of creep remaining.

I also have a 77/44 and the same sear/spring kit fits that one as well.

The 77/17 measures 2.5# and the 77/44 2.0# after the modifications.

Apparently, you will get a lighter trigger pull, but the results may not be exactly as advertised. They claim approximately 1.5 lbs -

But a dremel and use some felt tips and metal creme. You will be impressed. Oh yeah, some brass punches too to disassemble and reassemble your trigger assembly 20-30 times.

Jeepmor has nailed it. Disassembly of your 77/17 is very simple. Try polishing your trigger and sear contact points mirror bright and check the difference. You may also want to replace your trigger spring with a slightly lighter one. If this simple job doesn't satisfy you, go for the more expensive replacement kits. I own 5 model 77's of various calibers and a simple polishing made all the differece in the world for me.

thanks for the advice. What more expensive kits do you recommend if any at all?
