I have an AR-15 with a shell deflector wart on the lower. Do people do anything to protect the finish on these things, or do they just let the casings gradually destroy it?

Wipe off the brass blemishes, hit with alumablack every 20,000 rounds.

Personally, I find the Velcro to be tacky. It’s a bolt on spoiler on a Kia.

Arrow rest pad for a dropaway should be about the right size.....And you leave my kias spoiler alone!
This is why internet and guns shouldn't mix, especially ar-15s!
I just wasted 5 min trying to figure out what on earth a KIA was (as an acronym associated with ar 15 or any gun for that matter, NOT killed in action) and WHY it would need a spoiler(let alone a bolt on)! Shame on BOTH of you!!!
Lol

I don't know but we never worried about protecting the finish on the brass deflector when I was in the service. It usually cleans right up with some GI issued CLP.

It won't hurt anodized, and cleans up like 12Bravo20 says. Other finishes might be damaged by it, and if you don't want the damage, the velcro trick works.

Maybe if he'd have said Kia Stinger? ;)

Baaaahahahah, you dug your own rabbit hole that time!

If anyone puts a bolt on, on a Stinger, I will find them and murder them with a plastic spoon.........

Like a cci hybrid? ;) :D
That like a hollow point green tag?

anyway, ill go see if a arrow rest pad fits i still have a few.....you can call them cooling fins if anti-mar devices dont cut it lol.

I stuck a piece of Velcro, the soft side on mine. Does not seem to hurt anything. If I had worked for Uncle Sam and he provided me the rifle for said work then I would not care about wear and tear on the deflector but since I am paying for my AR with the little bit of after tax money Uncle Sam leaves me to keep I think I will take reasonable efforts to preserve the firearm from wear and tear. But, there is no fun in owning something, anything, if one cannot use it and enjoy it for fear of wearing it out or ruining the value. Take reasonable precautions as you see fit and proper maintenance and go shoot the thing.

Brassing, or the appearance of brass around the worn edges of the old Nikon and Leica 35mm cameras, was like the badge of honor for photographers that had been out in the field and paid their dues. No harm in a rubber baby buggy bumper, but no glory either. :D
