I have been shooting my .45 1911 and have become a great 1911 fan. I also enjoy shooting my SP01 9mm. I would like to get the best of both by shooting a 1911 9mm handgun. I shoot lots of steel and IDPA. 9mm has a more managable recoil and is way cheaper to load.

I checked out the Armscor/RIA 1911's in 9mm, but they stopped making them a couple of years ago and will probably resume production by year end according to them.

Who else makes a good 1911 9mm?

i have been eyeing up the springfield EMP, its compact though 3.5" barrel. very nice , well put together gun. also they make the "loaded" version in 5" 9mm...

para carry 9

super nice handgun, the finest DAO trigger system in the world, deadly accurate, and as small as a 1911 style gun you can buy. Mine went bang every time.

I had read (I think) that when taurus came out with the 1911 in 45 that they said they was going to make it in the 9mm also. Did I just dream that or what?

Kimber

I'm eyeing one at the local shop for $749. It think it is the pro carry. It is has a 4" barrel. They also make one in the Tactical model...full size.

Taurus said they were going to make one..........but nothing yet.

I have shot a friend's Springfield EMP a few times - it is an excellent compact 9mm 1991. Very accurate and controllable at self-defense ranges of 7-15 yards. But it is a 3" barrel - so it is not much for competition.

I just went to a training class where someone was running their brand new Para P19 9mm - it was very accurate and smooth to shoot, but the mags kept choking on feeding.

I just picked up a SS Springfield Loaded 1911 in 9mm for $650.

Great shooter and very pretty to boot!

Been looking for one for a while now, and with the price of ammo going up, this gun is going to be going to the range more often!

The Kimber Aegis is nice. If you have smaller hands, the springfield EMP is a great little weapon. About an 1/8" narrower front to back than a "Standard" officers 1911 would be. I have larger hands, so that ruled it out for me. Para Ordnance makes some nice models with a light DA trigger. There are many choices out there. See if your local range rents any of the models you're interested in and go shoot them. Pick the one that fits you the best.
Good luck!

not to hi-jack, i too am interested in 1911 in 9mm, but need some less spendy options , if any. Does springfield make the GI or mil-spec in 9mm or 40sw ( my dial-up can't handle springfields website), any other $450 1911 9mm ?

I've had all good experiences with the Kimber Target II in 9mm. It's a full size 1911 that has very little recoil. I qualified for my CCW with it... of course the instructor was like, "Why the heck would you have a 1911 in 9mm?"

Great gun.

sd - there really aren't any 'cheap' 1911's in 9MM. You could try picking up a Rock Island 1911 in .38 super and going with a 9MM drop-in barrel. That might be the cheapest method of doing this, but it would cost more than $450. (Figure the base 1911 should cost about that much).

And I agree - I've hated Sprinfield's website ever since they redesigned it.

I have a Kimber Target II in 9mm, and I'm very satisfied with it. If I were to do it over, I'd go with the STI.

Problem: Affordable 1911 in 9mm (there is definitely a demand).

Solution: Ain't one.

I have 2, a Rock Island/Essex converted from .38 Super to 9mm, and Colt .38 Super converted to 9mm. Unless you are a little "tinker" savy, or have a 1911 guru friend, stick with a factory 1911, 9mm.

BTW: They are awesome to practice with, just awesome.

They are scarce, none on Gunbroker. According to Rock Island, because of demand they will resume making them at the end of this year for about $400 or so. Thats a pretty long time away, every other option is around $800.

I'm still fiddling around looking for the perfect load for my Baer. I have a few double feed issues with a couple mags. Generally running good. I was shooting this afternoon. i had some Penn 115 gr SWC that were giving me good accuracy at 25 yards. I like the crisp holes from SWC.

I am going to get a fiber optic sight on it one of these days. I was thinking about ordering one with the fiber optic front sight and the factory mag well when this one came available through John at Proload. I decided I didn't want to wait.
