I think it may be more versatile than the Remington 700 SPS Tactical.
And at least as accurate, if not more so.

What do you think?

I had one about a year ago and sold it after a couple of months of playing around with it. If you really want the scout scope it is probably a good set up. I decided I shoot better and the rifle balances better with a light weight rifle with a low powered scope mounted conventionally.

Add 3/4 to 1lb to the weight listed. The new ones are heavy. The newer Scout rifles are now using all steel bottom metal instead of plastic and aluminum on the original Scout. That combined with the newer stock design add up to more weight. Savage is still showing the weight on the older rifles on their website.

Other than being too heavy for my needs I had no complaints. Mine was about a 1.5" gun at 100 yards. If I had kept it longer I may have found a load that would do better. I eventually settled on the Kimber in 308. About 2X the money and 1.5" more barrel, but it is 2 lbs lighter and more accurate. With a 2-7X scope I can mount the gun and get on target faster than with the scout scope setup.

Since they use a detachable mag I always thought it would be a good idea to offer a 10 round mag with them. Maybe in the future.

I have an early Scout. Mine is very accurate, especially with my reloads, an will easily shoot 1" or better (20 rounds) at 100 yards off a bipod.

The B Square mount looks a little cheesy, but it works. Just make sure you Loc Tite it before you mount the scope. I've used both Leupold and Burris Scout scopes and prefer the Leupold. Its clearer and brighter, and the extra .25x of the Burris was annoying to me for some reason.

The irons are basic and work, but you'll probably never use them. I zeroed mine when I got it and havent used them since. The little gold ball did fall off my front sight and I filed it to a square post, which i prefer anyway, so for me it was a good thing.

They dont install or give you a stud for the third sling mount. You'd figure they would, since it is a Scout. Its an easy fix though.

I cut the recoil pad off mine, as I hate them. The one that came with the gun is sticky and just makes it worse. They dont offer a buttplate, but if you use a razor knife and cut the rubber part away from the plastic base, it works out well and the LOP is then about perfect.

I know a lot of people bitch about Savages plastic stock, but I dont have a problem with it.

For the money, you cant beat them. I've spent a lot more on prettier rifles and they werent half the rifle the Savage is.
