Here's a copy of the e-mail I sent the author:

Mr. Chapman,

Well written, factual and fair. Refreshing to read a factual story in the MSM. My own theory of why some folks don't want to discuss the 2A is that its brevity, clarity and its simple English don't leave much room for "interpretation" especially when writings by the framers always confirm the intent of the 2A. Of course my previous comment is tempered by the understanding that some folks don't want or can't stand brevity, clarity and simple English.

"Don't kid yoruself. Our enemies on the anti side know these documents all too well. It's that they know they can manipulate the sheeple into believing anything.

These folks on the anti side simply believe they know better than the founding fathers did. It is that arrogance that will be their downfall I hope. It isn't lack of knowledge."

That's exactly it - the public doesnt follow this like we do, so to them 'assault weapon' means what an Assault weapon really is - a select fire, short barreled rifle used mostly by the military - But the anti depend on such ignorance, if they said the truth 'well they arent REAL assault weapons, they are not full auto, they just LOOK like them' which people start to say 'so what?'. Before I got into guns, when the first were talking about 'assault weapons' I was about 11 years old (in 93) and to me, that meant what the Army uses - they had the public thinking they were going around arming themselves from an army supply depot.

I've finally stopped celebrating

I know it was a far off, small and preliminary decision but, when coupled with my travel to the state capitol, to join over 1500 of my bretheren in this politically troubled state in lobbying legislators last wednesday, I was so bouyed I decided to fertilize the exuberance of spirit that had been missing for so long. This happened to co-incide with a small event known as St. Patricks Day(s).
I have returned to my senses. I have taken time to view my Tribune after retrieving it from the re-cycle bin where the paper boy puts it to see another wonder, The trib can understand english. Okay, thery're not so hot at history but we can work on that.
I met a Lot of motivated folks at IGOLD (Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day) on Mar 14 and I can vaguely see the imminent demise of the Chicago/IllinoisGovernor political monster. The scent of Indictments is in the air and opposition legislators and lobbyists are salivating. Someone pinch me, there is a house bill to allow concealed carry and it has a heartbeat. Gun owners have shed their lethargy and due in some part to the D.C. decision coupled with the recent and ongoing onerous attempts to institute another "Assault Weapon Ban " SB16, have started to organize and fight. If any of you wish to support us, log on to the ISRA website.

Thanks for your suport and comiseration for the past months.
