Single action RAP 401?

I did not realize Springfield Armory marketed these RAP pistols. What is a fair price for one of these now a days?

I don't think they did, but I don't really know for sure. I was commenting on how similiar it looks to a RAP 401. Like a single action version of it. I wonder if mags are interchangeable with the standard RAP/Astra magazines.

It's not a single action RAP.

The Springfield Armory "Firecat" is nothing more than the Astra A-70, produced by Astra in Spain for Springfield Armory. Kinda like the XD is nothing more than the HS-2000 produced by IM Metal of Ozalj, Croatia.

The big difference is price - both pistols, when marked with their original manufacturer's markings are relatively inexpensive. SA jacks up the price to appeal the American notion that "if it doesn't cost a lot, it can't be good," and there you have it.

The Astra A series are excellent pistols. I have an A-100 in .45 ACP, and it's one of my favorites - accurate, reliable, and comfortable to shoot. It will give any SIG P220 a run for the money, not least of all due to its 9 round magazine. . . If you can get any of them (A-70, A-75, A-80, A-90, A-100) at a decent price - SNAP THEM UP.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the RAP 401 was based on an Astra design as well. Also the RAP 401 uses Astra magazines without any tweaking.

The RAP 401 and 440 are direct clones of the Astra A-75 made by Republic Arms of South Africa.

The Springfield Armory Firecat *IS* an Astra A-70 made by Astra, in Guernica, Spain.

And I've sold about a half a dozen RAP 401's and in each case, the feedback from the purchaser was that Astra 75 mags didn't work.

Hang on a sec. .. I'm sitting here with my personal RAP 440, and a pair of Astra mags. They will feed, but the fit is very tight.

Guess it depends on the mag and the gun.

Astra

I've an Astra A100 45ACP. Good gun but I don't shoot it much because I've learned I don't like DA/SA guns.

Watch the sights working loose and potentially falling off. Happened to my friends 9mm and he lost it PITA to find a replacement, the rear on mine wandered after a few hundred rounds, put it back where it belongs and used a drop of locktight. Held so for for the few hundred rounds I've shot with it since -- its a major safe queen, along witih my two SIGs, Beretta 92, and S&W 669 because of the DA/SA operation. Eventually I learned to stop buying DA/SA guns :)

Edit PS:

Anybody importing and selling the HS-2000 under its only name, or did SA lock up an exclusive deal before jacking up the price?
