Of these two AR manufacturers, which would you pick to buy if you had to choose? I know they're both respected AR makers, maybe better-regarded than say, Anderson or PSA, but not at the level of Daniel Defense, Spikes, etc.

I don't know I'd put Spikes on a pedestal over many AR makers. DD sure, LMT, Larue, sure... Spikes largely is just the same as any of a hundred other makers, and the gap between them and Windham, Stag, and PSA is almost nothing.

I have a pair of Windhams, both run fine, just as my Windham built Bushmasters did before that, and just as any of my other AR's have. They don't ooze sex appeal, but they're AR's, so that's not surprising. I've worked on a handful of Stags, only owned one, it too was serviceable and didn't really stand out high or low among any comparably priced AR in its class.

Not a bad choice to buy either. Many folks make their decisions about these brands based on political motives. I tend to think life is too short for that most of the time.

I go with Stag due to being able to get a left handed uppers & and other ambi items. During a recent sale I purchased an complete left handed carbine upper with an american flag laser cut into dust cover. The 16 inch barrel was made of 4150 steel, chambered in 5.56, with a 1/7 twist, chromed lined, & HPT MPI . I added one of Stags Premium M16 BCGs and stuck it atop a Colt M4 complete lower. I had $283.00 in the upper plus $100.00 for the M16 BCG & $233.00 for the Colt lower new from Brownells. I know nothing of Windham's products other than what I have read. Stag has been totally good to go in my experience, I have owned several models of Stag guns over the years & will own at least one more(6.5 creedmoor)I am sure.

Good info thanks. I researched Windham and they too have 4150 chrome-lined barrels. It all points to them being very similar in quality.

I've only owned one Stag Arms and one Windham produced gun (if you're counting a Bushmaster made in 2007 as a Windham produced gun since it's the same actual guys) and I had problems with the Stag (it was a 6.8 SPC)....so I'd say get the Windham.

I have a Windham Varminter, but it is maybe 20 years old so I doubt if it's a reasonable comparison. It is incredibly accurate and has zero failures.

AFAIK, both appear excellent.

Since many AR assemblers buy virtually all their components, I'm not sure that there's gonna be a ton of difference. Mine has a Wilson match barrel. If that exact same barrel had gone on another brand, it would likely have been just as accurate

I have a Windham Carbon Fiber. It had some problems; but I expected that going into carbon fiber. The turn around and response by the service centre was excellent. Based on the level of service, I would definitely recommend Windham.

I also have an older Bushmaster from the Windham plant. Like was mentioned by another, it is a solid, reliable, build.

I have a WW 20" government model and it's excellent. Don't really know what more I'd want. And having dealt with one of their smiths and Tech Support types (just a few questions / no problems), Erik Winter, I'm very pleased with their customer support and all-around attitude. And their story is what initially drove me to them.
