The Gun transaction from Hell.

Yes, they walked me out the front door and handed me my gun. But on the way out I told the guy that it was kind of funny because, I has two AR 15s and a hand gun in the car. His eyes got bigger when I told him that I had a gun on me.
Some years back I bought a shotgun at Wally World and they wouldn't let me buy any ammo with it. I had to go out, put the gun in the trunk, then come back in for the ammo. I guess they figure that if someone wants to buy a gun to shoot the place up, having to make two trips to the gun counter instead of just one is going to dissuade them from carrying their plan through to completion.

I quit buying guns from them some years back, but I still buy ammo from them now and then. I always promise not to use it all on the way home. :D

I hope is shoots good.

I have seen some smoking deals at various Walmart stores. Should have bought a pair of Beretta 20ga shot guns that had at one, special order never picked up. Could have cleared $500 easy on resale back then but that would mean having to deal with even more..,,

The $100 they paid out is probably nothing compared to the money they will lose just from people who will read this thread and decide to skip a trip or buy less next trip.

Now I don't typically like Walmart anyhow, but this thread wouldn't dissuade me from shopping there.
I just see someone who worked for approximately 2 bucks an hour over two days.. Time is money..

This is exactly why I will never enter a Walmart store. I won't even go on their website any more. The entire company is a gigantic broken down machine and they have run every other department store in this town out of business. It's almost hard to believe they were ever granted an FFL, and that speaks volumes about the BATF. I have also dealt with them before too.

I've purchased two guns at Wal-Mart, a day or so apart. Both times went smoothly, though it is weird having to have one of their shift managers walk you out. At least the second one was cute. Both guns were .22 caliber rifles.

The third time around wasn't so smooth. They had a Marlin 336W for $337 or so, down about fifty from what it had been, and Remington had another $50 rebate going on. Twice, I stopped in after work to look at it, and I knew if it made it into my hands, it would leave with me. I was there at 1845 hours the first time (I get off work in another county at 1800, usually.) Took about 20 minutes to get someone to me, and he refused to show it because it was "too late to do a gun sale since background checks take two hours", and their guns/ammo sale cutoff time is 9PM. He wouldn't back down, so I left.

A few days later, I was there at 1820. This time, I couldn't even find anyone back there, so I went up front and got a "yellow-vest" (some kind of manager, I think) to walk me back and find someone. That in itself took maybe fifteen minutes, since they were busy up front. Another fifteen before someone with a gun-case key showed up, and gave me the same spiel. Now, I'd bought a gun elsewhere a week or so earlier, and had been in and out in minutes, the BGC being done before I'd even finished the 4473. I told him that, and added that, with Trump in office, gun sales were not at all what they had been and BGCs were quick. Still, they would not take that gun out of the case. I finally told them I'd be happy to pay the extra money at Bass Pro to buy it from them, and left.

Before making it to Bass Pro, however, I ended up in my favorite gun showroom a few days later and found a good price on a second-hand Winchester 94 to scratch the lever-.30-30 itch...

I've purchased a few shotguns at Walmart with no problems; and yes, they did the perp walk, even though I had a badge and a loaded weapon on my side. It was explained, a guy in a walmart vest carrying a gun in plain site is not a problem a man with no vest carrying a rifle could be; and this was many years ago in TN.
It's their policy, does not bother me, so long as the price was good.

I own the same rifle and i have been able to send 5 through the same hole numerous times with 55gr V max reloads. I would toss the scope though because i could never get mine to hold zero.

Next time I see a price tag that is too good to be true, I'm gonna take a picture of it with my phone. Any attempt to change the price on me and I'd have em' by the short hairs. Bad publicity hurts them.

Like many I'm not likely to ever purchase a firearm from a big box store- at least not since I was much younger (and Sears stores were in their prime --so that's a long, long time ago for this 70 year old...). That said there are one or two items that my nearest Walmart carries that aren't easy to find elsewhere without doing a lot of running around... They're not firearms related but very relevant to how big box retailers are doing these day... When they didn't have what I needed (and looking at their stock on the shelves it looked as though they wouldn't be.... anymore) I went home and got on this very computer - and had exactly what I needed for less money shipped to my home and in my hands three days later.... no sales tax either...

The guy on TV that calls this the retail "Ice Age" has it right. Any big box retailer that isn't really on top of their stock, policies, and whether their employees are actually up to speed is going the way of the dinosaurs in my opinion... Later on today I'll be coming back to this computer for some needed supplies for my small business (full time fishing guide in the Everglades...) and I'll find them cheaper and with a lot less hassle than going to Walmart.....

I do buy a cheap rifle or shotgun there occasionally as do my friends, although it's a pain. I'd hate to see them stop selling arms from lack of sells. Reloading supplies would likely go too, Ammo might follow.

I tried to buy a 6920 colt a few years back for 800ish. After the third person couldn't figure out how to work the new computer, the manager walked by and said he had 15 minutes left of break. I had been there for an hour by then anyway so I just left. They clearly get longer breaks than most.

Regardless, the fact that the largest retailer sells guns and ammo, even though it's not a noticeable portion of their sales and could be dropped and unnoticed by their bottom line, has to piss off certain people. So I'll continue to pick up a brick of 22 or another 870/500 when I see the opportunity.

-Yet another problem that can be avoided (or at least reduced) by buying used or antique guns.
Big Boxes aren't likely to carry used guns, and the ones that do sell used guns are used to selling all kinds of guns.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I would certainly expect a difficult transaction partly just since it is Wal Mart, and especially if you are demanding a nearly half price purchase on a $400+ item due to an error.

Yep. Their hemming-and-hawing over showing me the new 336W I wanted to buy (post 33) resulted in my getting a used Winchester 94, a cooler gun for my wants (and with "character" already pre-worn into it.)

My experience buying a stinking little Marlin .22 rifle is that Walmart makes you feel like a criminal when you by a gun. They're all scared stiff of getting in trouble processing the transfer, but are too cheap (or lazy) to train their peeps how to do it right with confidence. And then they have the stupid policy of having the manager walk the packaged firearm out to your car.

Frankly, I don't know why they bother.

Damn, you're a lot more patient than I am! This is one of many reasons why I don't buy guns at box stores but especially Walmart. Even at places like Academy Sports, it takes twice as long as my local gun shop.

The problems started long before the pricing error was discovered. Thirty min., the first evening, without ever getting anyone to help me. The second day it two hours just to get to the point to ring up the sale.
I never demanded that they sell it to me for $269, but I did tell them that I would like it at the marked price. On the third day I was lied to twice in a matter of 30 min. about why they could not mark it down. After pointing out the lie, the third manager was rude to me. I was polite the whole time.
When I called the home office, I was polite. The person I talked with was polite. When the manager(Alex) called me from the local Walmart store where I went to buy the gun, he was polite. On the third time Alex called me, he offered the $100 gift card. I never demanded that they sale me the gun for $269. He knew that it was less then the error in pricing and even stated that, and asked it that would work for me. I probable could have pushed the issue and gotten it for $269, but I only wanted to be treated fairly.

Here on the border we have some of the busiest Wal-Marts in the country. Folks from all over Northern Mexico come here to shop. Too bad these stores are minimally staffed by poorly trained employees and managers.
I thought that the stores up north night be better run.

I guess that I was wrong.
