I was thinking it would be great if THR could rally to the cause collectively, as well as writing letters, joining the NRA et cetera. Since there are already plenty of pro-gun organisations out there, and most of the staunch antis ignore logic and reason, it might be better to take a different approach. THR could form an uncompromising anti-gun group, get approval from people like the Brady Bunch, Violence Policy Centre, elected politicians perhaps, and then loudly campaign in the most unreasonable, bigoted, ignorent, dishonest and offensive ways possible. The idea being groups like the NRA could easily and intelligently counter argue, expose blantant fabrications and generally compare as the morally better side, and perhaps normal voters would start seeing gun owners as victims and the antis as extremists, and it would make Obama less likely to associate himself with gun banners.
It wouldn't be particularly easy, but far from impossible as well. I'm sure someone here'll know how to make a website, and antis would probably be pleased to encourage a new group into the fold. Then it would just be a matter of putting forward opinions; posters, a few public speaches maybe, and whenever Obama mentions 'ban' we could hang an enormous banner outside the White House saying: "THR AGAINST GUNS SUPPORTS OBAMA: GUN OWNERS SHOULD BE SHOT!" We could build a papier-mache gun, nail it on a cross and set fire to it while wearing white sheets. We could publicly threaten acts of terrorism against the NRA. No-one would want to be on the same side as that group!
We probably wouldn't have to be all that extreme, just enough to villify the anti cause. The only problems I can see are the organisational aspects, and the potential to backfire enormously, but please do comment and criticise.
