Wally World getting out of Ammo too?

We ought to make a sticky:

- Wal-Mart is not turning "anti gun". They're still carrying firearms and ammunition in 700+ stores.

- In some stores, Wal-Mart is trying to compete with Target's "look and feel".

- In some regions of the country, Wal-Mart wages are not enough to find competent people capable of supervising the filling out of 4473's or the maintenance of the FFL register.

The majority of Wal-Marts here in SE WI still carry firearms and ammunition. The only one's that have stopped that I'm aware of are the two that are closest in to urban Milwaukee. Those in the (still) close suburbs and further out still carry firearms.

Wal-Mart is ruthlessly efficient. This is an economic decision.

Also, there seems to be a HUGE boom nationwide in the building of "Big Box" outdoor stores, Cabela's, Gander Mountain, Outdoor World, and Sportsman's Warehouses are popping up like mushrooms, at least here in the midwest. I partly suspect that Wal-Mart's puny little gun racks can't compete. Their buying power is HUGE, but a more dedicated chain's purchasing power and pricing on firearms may well be better in the long run.

My Wal Mart here in Pa still has both guns and ammo but when you buy .22 ammo they ask if its for a rifle or pistol. If you tell them its for a handgun they about have a nervous break down, not sure why but they do. I think the clerk still punches into the computer thats its for a rifle just to save the hassle.

Wal-mart deceided a few months ago to stop selling guns and ammo in about 1000 of their stores. It was in the news and in several newspapers. Apparently the 1000 stores were not that profitable and wanted to concentrate on those that were.

I agree with the idea that the big box outdoor stores might be forcing them out. The gander mountain that is in the same shopping center as my walmart tripled the size of their gun area. They also ran an ad a week or two ago about selling Ar-15s. The people who run walmart arent dumb. As valuable as floor space is they might figure the space might do better sales wise with fishing/camping gear.

Ammo seems to be getting more and more scarce in several different venues. And the price is going up all over except maybe for the bottom end lines.

The Chinese are buying up raw materials at a suicidal pace. Copper is in short supply. Check the news. The price has gone up so high that thieves are stealing the coils from home air conditioners.

Copper prices are not responsible for ammo price increases. I've run the numbers. I don't see how fuel could be, either. For example, transportation of goods across the ocean only adds 1% to the cost of goods.

I'd like to get the inside scoop on ammo prices from someone on the inside. I think it is just demand/supply, and the decreasing value of the dollar. Commodity prices are minor.

1. Ammo keeps going up BOOO (time to buy that reloading kit)
2. Walmart may not be the most conservitive corperation in the world but it sure as heqq isn't the farthest left either.
3. Manedwolf get over it.
4. China buying more metals = creepy! (see Japan prior to WW2)

Yes, but we get almost all of it back as finished goods, then the Chineese eventualy buy it back as scrap and the cycle repeats...
