..........and walked out leaving it on the shelf.

Damn, I really wanted to like the gun, I went to buy it and ended up leaving without one. The drawback? After picking it up and handling it, the grip was just not nearly as comfortable as the XD-40 or XD-9.

By looking at it only, it doesn't look much larger, some but not much. My hand doesn't envelope the grip as much which makes the whole gun have a different feel. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice feel but not the perfect feel of the smaller gripped XD's. Granted feel is relative, all our hands are different but I have above average sized hands, fairly meaty and the grip still felt too big in comparison to the others.

If I didn't already have an XD in .40S&W I imagine I would have bought it. But I left with the feeling that if I bought the XD-45, it would have been my stepchild, I would like my current 4" service model XD better.

If they make a .45ACP sub compact night sight version, I'll be on it though. I don't have one of those.

I don't blame you man, I have the XD40 service and the XD45ACP for CCW choices.

The difference is subtle but it is there. The fact is that the XD45ACP is amazingly slim and trim for a .45 ACP.

I prefer the .45 because it's just a hair bigger and fits me just slightly better. The XD40 is the smallest gun I can comfortably get a three finger grip on. Seriously, any smaller and it'd be too small.

The .45 is just going to be too big for some people, but that's what the .40 is for.

They're both really nice I think. Use the cash you saved for more magazines, ammo, traning, or another XD40 in a different size or finish!:D

there's always the GAP...

I thought he said he didn't want a step child!!:D

I rented one last Saturday, and holy smoke that thing is a shooter. Maybe I am just better with .45 vs. .40, but that thing was accurate.

Why o why do I keep wasting my money on food, clothes and shelter when there are so many other necessities?:banghead:

It seems that everyone wants a .45ACP, but does not like the bulky grips. That is the same complaint people have about the Glock 21. The XD .45 is suppose to have a skinnier grip than Glock and HK.

There's always the GAP...

...which brings me back to earlier; will Springfield redesign the XD GAP model to have a similar capacity to the XP-45ACP?

I fondled one of these at a gun show today, I concur with previous statements about the grip being longer, but not any thicker than the XD9. I wonder if the price will drop once the excitement over these cools off, or will they just get more expensive as time goes on, like with the .40 and the 9? What do you think?

The gun gotta feel good on the hand or it's no go, doesn't matter how good the gun suppose to be.

I agree

the grip is not the same as the 9 or 40. I too wanted one, found one, handled it and put my money back in my wallet! Grip too long and thick. Plus, put 14 rounds of 45acp in it and you have a HEAVY gun to tote around all day long for a CCW. Just my 2 cents!

I recently went to a gun show specifically in search of an XD .45, and I walked out without one....I, too found the grip bulky and clumsy...it just didn't fit my hand well at all........ergonomics seems to have been an afterthought for SA...I was diasppointed as the price was right ($489.99 with the kit of gooddies that comes with it)....what a disappointment .....

I don't know about the 45, but I think I know what you mean about the others. I had never really thought about an XD9 before I held one for the first time yesterday. As soon as I had it in my hand, I knew this was the one that was going home with me.

It did.

I didn't really like the 45acp either... I will not be purchaseing one... still like the 40 and the 9 though.

I went to a gun store today specificly to buy the xd45 (I knew this shop had one). The grip bothered me also. Looked at a Sig 220 for $669. The XD45 was $529. Owner showed me this for $389 and it followed me home. Then to the range. 200 rounds and I'm in love,

Different strokes I guess.... can't really tell the difference in grip between my XD9-Tac and the XD45ACP. Guess it all really depends on the size of your hand and finger reach to the trigger. The grip is very comfortable to me (I have a medium sized hand, glove size 7-8) and when compared to the G21 grip, the XD45ACP feels like a pencil:D

Hey Guy's and/or Gal's- Its Whatever Floats Your Boat~!

Personally, after selling many Springer XD's for quite awhile, I like 'em all.:uhoh: But, since my favorite caliber is the .45 ACP why would I
want anything else? Too me, the grip angle of the XD-45 ACP
closely resembles that of my 1911's; and that sets my soul on fire,
cuz the 1911's are my favorite guns too shoot. Especially since I've
got a secret that I have been hiding from you good people. You see,
I am now a proud papa to a brand NIB Les Baer Thunder Ranch .45
ACP~!:uhoh: Yes, I traded away my beloved Kimber Raptor II and
a few other goodies too be able to afford this very fine custom job.
So, yes the Springer XD .45 ACP is still my favorite fantastic plastic
pistol~!:)

If you put a tape measure around the grip of a .45ACP XD and a XD-40/9, you'll see there is a difference. I wear an extra large in a glove and found it not as comfortable as my existing XD-40. Like I say, if I didn't already have an XD, I probably would have bought it but as it is, every time I would pick up the two, I would find myself liking the .40 much better and therefore it would see all the use.

JDL, I'll have to go check out the 24/7 in .45. As much as I have never been a Taurus fan, the 24/7 and Mil Pro's have a definate attraction.

I believe that's impossible. The 45GAP is designed to fit into the same frame as 9 and 40. I think the reason why Taurus 24/7 PRO in 45GAP can hold 12+1, is because they fit it in the same frame as their 45ACP model. So, to have a 45GAP in smaller 9/40 frame, you suffer the low capacity. To have higher cap, you need to fit it into a larger frame, which defeats the purpose, as you could just get a 45ACP and have more choices in ammo availability...

Maybe, maybe not.

It would be possible to design a grip that is as wide as the .45 grip, so the rounds would stack right, but as short as the 9mm/.40 grips, thus taking advantage of the short OAL of the GAP cartridge.

However, that would require redesign and manufacture of the whole frame (well, the grip) and magazines, and I dunno if Springfield thinks there is enough interest for that that. Also, it might create an odd length to width ratio.

I dunno.

Dude, that is sha-weet! Stainless or otherwise! Thanks for the replies. Oh, one more question. I noticed that it has the "PRO" designation on the slide. Does that mean that it has a better trigger on it that a non-PRO, you know, like on the Millinium series?
