What gun for wasps?

Drats !!

You folks are messing up my "get rich" scheme. If you build it - they will buy it.

Now I gotta call the guy doing my labels to add Wasps

$29.95 + S&H gets you a can of generic hair spray and book of matches.

St. Elmos Rid All Designed to "rid" one of mutant ninja zombies, pumas, bears, duck, snakes, cockroaches, silverfish, attack squirrels, wascal wabbits, groundhogs, and now ....WASPS.

Hurry and I'll toss in the $9.95 Tactical Trophy Hanging Kit for free - limited time offer...

Reminds me , I still have more bailing wire to cut and soda pop pull tabs to round up... :D

Here's one for ya Steve.

I buy the wasp killer sprays on closeout at Home Depot for .50 a can. Then I can afford to sit on the porch and take pot shots at the ones flying around (costs me about .25 per wasp, but the fun is worth it).

I figure if someone came up with a shoulder stock and sights for those cans, they would make a fortune. :D

A friend of mine who was being annoyed by a wasp flying around his head decided to shoot at it repeatedly with the .357 he was holding. He insists it was self defense.

Hrmm

I wonder how well it would work if you tossed a fresh can of raid insta-kill or whatever under a nest, and then shot it from a distance?

Actually...

I have the real, live answer. I work for a very large manufacturer of industrial chemicals. We have developed a wasp gun, very much like a paintball gun that uses CO2 cartridges and propels a capsule that is filled with powdered insecticide.

While the original question may have been in jest, we expect this to be an extremely good seller. I have used it, and it's a hoot. If I knew how to post digital pix here, I'd take one and show it.

Nope. The flying bugs. Which I think I would enjoy taking out with a Drozd full-auto BB gun.

Those things are a blast!!! I got to play with one once. I'm still trying to justify the expense, compared to a real firearm...

"with limited success but enormous satisfaction"

Ahh... the perfect description of me at the range. :) :D :p

ConcernedCitizen, look at my signature quotes (not necessarily the Gibran one). Now, ask yourself why people buy Jaguars and Porsches when the speed limit's 60 mph. ;)

In the Heavy Gear (RPG/tactical tabletop game) sourcebook Into the Badlands, in the entry on "Redjacket Swarms" in the chapter on Flora and Fauna, there's an interesting sidenote about how some badlanders choose to fight against the swarms: shotgun shells loaded with fine sand, which, whilst tear-assing through the air (and through the swarm), would shred the fine, membranous wings of the redjackets, rendering them helpless.

Obviously, this'd give your barrel the business, and might foul your shottie up (that's why they make Maverick cheapies!), but, in theory, it might work. Plus, you could call your loads "Bugshot".

Geddit? Geddit? Buckshot, birdshot, bugshot...

LarryW,

That was awesome. Now you've given me an idea....

It's late summer. You're at the shooting bench and your bottle of Coke or OJ is undrinkable because the yelllo jackets have found it after only 10 minutes. How about an orange juice soaked target out at 25 yards? I've got to try it.

Ya know those jam packets you get at Denny's with breakfast? A little dab on the target does just fine. ;)

By God, this has the makings of a fine shooting sport. Judged scores will be based on the diameter of the "bug gut halo" that forms around the bullet hole. :)

Besides my .22 I'd bet my brother's scoped .17 rifle would be perfect for this.

I thought...

I thought this thread was a discussion over what gun is best for a White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant. Silly me. And I was geared up to read about which pistol goes best with which SUV...

Great article from Varmit Hunter, LarryW.

I guess this means that the sport of varmit hunting for insects has been institutionalized. I'll have to remember this next time there's a "what do you use for targets" thread.
