What gun would this fictitious character use?

I think the main USSR military commander(played by the excellent actor; William Smith) in the film: Red Dawn used a Scorpian machine pistol.

If you're referring to the Spetnaz Col., (Я-Охоник!), he used a Jati-Matic, a Finnish SMG firing 9mm Para. ;)

TRICKYASAFOX: "give a twist and consider something american."

Actually that's not a bad idea. In the story, he teams up with the Americans to assissinate some high ranking soviets. Why wouldn't they also supply some weapons? But that might blow his cover.

RustyShackelford,

You are mistaken. An AK-74 is basically an AK-47 chambered in 5.45 rather than 7.62x39. Size wise they are virtually identical.

You are thinking of the AKSU-74. There are chopped down versions of both the 47 and the 74. These are sometimes referred to as Krinkovs. They have a folding stock, with a nifty reciever catch, and a hinged dustcover with mid-length iron sights. I've got a custom Krinkov built on a Saiga right now. Very cool guns.

Now here's a good lookin' Mak.

Your fictional character with his fictional connections could get a custom nickel plated Mak easily. It's a nickel plated sissy pistol but who cares. Your character will look good with this gun????

SAA for class ;) make up a story that it was stolen from a dictators private stash or a dead general who wanted to be patton.

I would like to see the guy sport a pair of CZ 24 or CZ 26 submachine guns in 7.62x25

Its like having an uzi chambered in .357 magnum, it uses the same cartridge as the cz 52 so it would make ammo a bit easier to come by.

32 round stick mags, high cyclic rate, easy to hide under a duster.

I'd suggest a Mosin-Nagant handgun. Yes handgun. The partisans during WWII used them and they were a favorite of Russian mobsters later on. Quite a muzzle flash!

but how better to infuriate those you fight against but by utalizing the weapons of their main advesary.

Actually....that is what Stalin did. The russian czar ordered a bunch of .44 revolvers from smith and wesson, break open schofield type, and that is why we have the .44 russian cartridge, which is the ballistic twin of the 44 special, just a tad bit shorter.

Anyways, a few were jazzed up for the czar, but most were used by his bodyguard, and for troops etc. Later, when the czar was killed, his guns were passed around for a while, and Stalin was reported to have used one of the big 44 revolvers to shoot people in the head for treason, or to offer it to them so they could kill themselves for failing him.

Not really sure how you could have a soviet union that was MORE repressive than what it was under stalin.

Remember, Stalin was the one that started sending people off to siberia, because it is better to get a few years of work out of them than just shoot them. Of course, don't bother supplying the camps. Had a few camps in which every single person, even the guards starved or froze to death.

Stalin wanted to get rid of a person who he thought was gaining in power and popularity, and was afraid this person would soon be a rival to him. Stalin had a trusted underling talk to the cheif of police who contacted a thug to kill the person. Stalin then had the thug killed, the thugs parents, wife, and ex wife, and the ex-wife's parents, current husband, and his two parents, the chief of police was forced to resign and committed suicide in front of stalin for 'failing in his job of protecting government officails' The underling was killed by stalin as a traitor, and half of the upper ranks of the police were shipped off to siberia for running such a terrible police department that his 'friend' could get killed. This all happened in the week between the first death and the funeral. Stalin then appointed this man's son to the post, but after 2 years had him shipped off as a traitor as well

Here's what I got so far:

No gun yet. I'll start that tomorrow. I'm doing an AK for sure, a Dragunov if I have time, and a makarov with integrated supressor (easiest to model haha)

How about a Liberator? If the alternate history thing diverges far enough back, maybe the US Army wouldn't have dumped all those Liberators in the sea.

If it's a Mauser it would be a "Bolo" 4 inch model.. named after the Bolsheviks who favored it.

The bought a bunch of these before replacing them with the Tokarev.

give a twist and consider something american. sounds silly but how better to infuriate those you fight against but by utalizing the weapons of their main advesary.

oppressive Russian dictatorship? get under their skin with an original wwII 1911.

I agree that some American weapons would work out nicely. The set up to them could be your character enters a Russian officers house/office and he has some American weapons on display. You take them. Nothing better than running around with an M60, duel Baretta 93s (suppressed), and a good old M16.

Stalin wanted to get rid of a person who he thought was gaining in power and popularity, and was afraid this person would soon be a rival to him.

Actually it was whoever Beria wanted to get rid of. And that was anyone but him whom he thought might bend Stalin's ear . ;)

Something American - AND German, and Norwegian...the 1911 auto was built in Norway (with a distinctive slide release lever) and Germany put the pistol into production for its handgun-starved forces, so Russia could have captured a stock of them from either Norway or Germany - and the Americans could supply plenty of ammo.
