Kimber Revolver? Shot Show

I second that!!
I'll third that.

To be brutally honest, I don't think it will be a traditional looking revolver. Something space age, black, and plastic is what this new revolver will be.

Let's see if I eat my words in a couple days, but I seriously doubt it will be anything of interest to me. Especially if it has a lock on it.

Remember that these are the folks who sell full sized 1911s, ostensibly for concealed carry. I don't think "concealed" or "carry" necessarily means small to Kimber. It might mean "compact" though. One of my two Kimbers is a CDP II Custom Compact, 4" barrel, officer grip.

That's what I'm hoping. They say "concealed" but show a 6-shot "cylinder" (can you call a hexagon a cylinder? :) ). You can do a small-framed revolver in a six shot gun (see the old Colt D-frames, new Rossi 461/462, and Taurus 851), though usually a little larger than a J-frame. However, I'm hoping they'd go more along the lines of something more like the S&W K-frame with a 2.5" and 3" barrel (if only one barrel length, go with the 3").

Probably looking at the California market, where new semi-autos can't be put on the safe handgun roster, nor can any in and grandfathered, cannot be modified without microstamping. Some believe over time, CA will be a revolver state.
That's a very interesting thought, did not know that.

I'm interested!! Thanks for the heads up. I'm curious what caliber etc. they will pick. I would imagine it'll be a 357 mag, but who knows. Also the add says something about concealed carry, but it's a six shot. Perhaps a short barreled "k" or "L" sized frame. Can't wait for next week.
I'm interested too. I was thinking perhaps a revolver based on the Colt Detective Special. If so, they'll have a winner on their hands.

Let's hope it's in a caliber that starts with 4

I would like to see one in 41 special. Since Starline is now making the brass for a production pistol that doesn't exist, maybe someone would start making one now.

That would be sweet, I'd buy one.

I was hoping more along the lines of an all steel .40, .44 special, or .45 in a 3 inch gun. That is what I am wishing for.

The ad promises to change the way we think about conceal carry, and boasts a revolutionary new platform. With a statement like that I'll be a little disappointed with a shiny copy of what is already available. I'm thinking a break open that fires from the bottom bore and comes with quick change cylinders for fast reloads. Breaks open similarly to a mag release and is under spring tension for one handed unloading. Just push release, tip up and cylinder falls. New cylinder is positioned, revolver locked up and back to firing away.
That could be interesting.

Every hear of moon clips? That would be more practical, and far less expensive.

That being said, somebody needs to come out with a .41 special 5-shot snub nose on something like the SP101 frame, as small a cylinder as possible.

Well... Its not quite as ugly as I was expecting. And it's made of steel not plastic. So we'll see. Lots of information to be learned still bIt'll be a long time before I see one in my area. But that's what YouTube is for!

Yes, heard of them, But when talking about Kimber the phrase,"less expensive", doesn't come to mind.:neener:

True to kimber it is quite sexy, but not something I'm gonna run out and buy.

Looks okay, I guess.

It's still too early to tell though. It could well be a dud, or never released in large numbers, making it either impossible to find or extremely expensive on the open market, or it could be plagued with problems as these things almost always are. Remember, Kimber is brand new to revolver making.

It will be relevant to my interests in comparing the cylinder diameter of this new Kimber option and a Smith and Wesson's J-frame.

Doesn't matter if the revolver is light. If the cylinder is too fat, the gun will print badly for CCW uses. Still might make a good belt revolver for snake country though.

Just took some very rough measurements of my 3rd gen Detective Special, and it looks like the Kimber is going to be slightly smaller in all dimensions. I reallly want to see one.

Well kind of disappointed we're not seeing any new, ground breaking innovation with this design. Sort of looks like a cross between a Charter Arms Off Duty and a Taurus Model 650B2. At $899 definitely a bit pricey for the snubnose revolver market, even if it is a .357 with a 6 shot cylinder.

What is that above the trigger guard on the right hand side? Lock? fastener to remove the side plate? Button to release something?

Looks like a clean design.

Hard to think of a ground breaking revolution in revolver design. It's really just nuances and tweaking.
