I don't know where this is headed, but I never feel like shooting either of my revolvers anymore. Glocks, XDs, M&Ps, semi autos are all that I see here in CA. I realize we have a shortage of wide open spaces near the bigger cities, so the ranges are the only place to get out and squeeze off a few rounds. I feel like everyone wonders if I can afford some newer weapons. I used to think my Ruger and S&W Revolvers were the coolest guns to own. So just to fit in I only pull out the semi-autos to go shoot now. I believe I need an EXORCISM HERE!! Or maybe what I'm looking for is some revolver support, before I sell them off and regret it down the road, like my old classic 4 door hardtop with bucket seats and 4 on the floor. My old pop is rolling over as I speak.:banghead:

I find I get bored with one thing or the other from time to time, but sooner or later get it out again and remember why I like it.

If I knew where you lived I'd come and slap some sense back in your head.

There will soon come a day when you are too old to rack the slide on your semi-autos, and be to stiff to bend over and police up your empty brass off the ground.

Pay no attention to what you think others think.

Just continue too outshoot then on paper with your old 'not cool' wheel guns!!

Guns are like cars. Some are merely a tool used for a task. Think about those old Dodge work vans. Others are picked based on our own tastes, likes and dislikes. Some people like Ford, others like Chevy, a few poor souls are stuck in the fifties and hang on to an old Desoto. But nobody buys a car because their neighbor likes it.

Shoot what you like to shoot. Your money spent on your guns. No need to justify the choice to anyone else. And it's nobody else's business if you can or can't afford a new one.

I got all the latest stuff, electronic gizmos on the bullpup, Kydex-holstered Glocks, I could probably keep an army of zombies at the end of the driveway for a good while. I'd rather go down to the pit and shoot a SAA or a '51 and a thumper lever action than anything else. These ARE the coolest guns there are, to me, functional works of art, not just tools. I'm getting the impression them Californey folks just don't know any better...shoot what you enjoy.

One reason that you might consider keeping up your practice with revolvers. I as well as some others find that it improves your trigger skills with rifles as you must follow proper trigger reset on a revolver. This carries forward with a revolver. In addition, compared with rifles, firing a revolver in DA accurately means excelling at controlling a trigger far more heavy than almost any rifle.

Several years ago I went shooting with a buddy of mine. He had a HK P7 squeeze cocker and I had a .357.

Other people were all going gaga over his gun and ignored mine...until I shot it and it shook the walls. Then they all asked what made that huge boom!

Many young'uns today have never seen magnum revolvers, let alone shot one.

But don't care about what other people think. Don't let trends make your decision. Shoot what is right for you and what *you* enjoy.

Do you go fishing off bass boat? If so Ruger GP100 makes a wonderful small boat anchor.

Thanks Everybody! Heck Yes I Love My 3-5-7!

But I feel a whole lot better knowing you all feel the same way. The hardest part about retirement is to not see all the pals you once slaved with anymore. Thanks for all your bolstering. They do turn their heads when that round sounds and the flash at the muzzle always says, "Hey, Watch This." Boom!!!

The local range rats were in complete disbelief that my 1908 production Colt New Service in .38/40 was shooting sub-fist sized groups at 15 yards while their new Glock .40's were doing a great impression of a blunderbuss.

An automatic is a fine thing, but a good wheelgun never goes out of style. And for all the automatics I have, and I have a fair few, I usually carry a revolver.

Yes, that boom. It's been awhile since I took a revolver to the range...I think before long I need to break out my own GP100 and fire off some of my hotter 125gr Hornady/Buffalo Bore/Rem SJHP ammo just for :D

I had to kind of chuckle at this. For a million years I've been an auto guy and only dabbled with the wheel guns. The last 2-3 months I've gone positively revolver gonzo and have bought several. Will it last? Maybe, maybe not. But who cares, the ride is what matters.

Unless you really need the cash, just hang on to it until your tastes change, because, well, they will. If you need the dough now, sure, sell it off like any other item of value. No need to overthink it. ;)

I used to be a die-hard revolver nut but these days I've found I really like all-steel pistols. I am not a fan of modern polymer striker fired guns, not because I don't think they're good and effective, I just do not enjoy shooting them. I am really liking the classic old steel guns, 1911s, Makarovs, and stuff like that. Those are fun autos to shoot.

OP: It's probably just a phase. Hang on to your GP100. Someday down the road you might feel the exact opposite.

The way gun laws are going in California, the next thing they will try is outlawing handguns with detachable magazines... at which point (if you don't move elsewhere) a revolver will be a mighty nice thing to already have and know how to shoot.

Clean it up and put it in storage. I rarely sell a good gun anymore unless it just doesn't click with me, so I don't regret selling any later.

I can understand being bored with a Ruger GP100. I've thought they were boring from the first time I layed eyes on one, but that's just me being weird. They're good guns I know.

Do people at the range actually pay attention to what you shoot? I don't think anyone has ever actually noticed, or paid any attention to what I'm shooting, or if they did, they sure never commented on it. I've never noticed what the guy in the next lane is shooting either I don't think. Unless he's got some kind of flashenbooomer or something. Even then I don't notice WHAT it is.

But if you're bored with it, put it up, or sell it and get something else. They're not rare, so it's not like it can't be replaced. It's just a gun.

I love my GP100, lots of good shooting sessions with it. Nothing makes me more happy than loading up 50 rounds of 158 LRN, taking it out into the woods, and firing away at a tower of soup cans.

Right now, I'm using 700X and my latest batches have been a bit smoky, but I've found that I even get a kick out of that. Hard to beat a solid wheelgun.

Ironically, the guns that have gotten me the most attention at the range were a Marlin 1894 in .357 and a Pedersoli Brown Bess. So maybe add one of those and keep the GP-100?

Holy mother of dog, is that what Cali is doing to you?! Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones was cool because he was different and stood out, was his own man and knew what he was doing. He was a man. Be a man, know what you are and what to exude, BE and DO what other people strive to be. Be a leader, with confidence in your choices.

(but glad you bled it out here....where you can get real help:uhoh:)

The only guns I would consider getting rid of would be those that are unreliable or inaccurate. All the others are keepers. If you're bored with shooting your DA revolvers switch over to something else, like SA revolvers or semi-auto pistols or maybe a pistol caliber carbine. Plenty of other choices out there to take with you to the range.
