A "If you could only have 9 guns" thread, need well rounded collection

I don't currently have (and don't have a desire) for any .40 caliber weapons.
Been there, and done that so to speak; and always found myself returning
to .45 ACP for self-loaders; and sticking with the .357 magnum in revolvers.
However, I do own one 9m/m (1990 model West German SIG-SAUER P228).
Just a'bout all my needs are filled, and my "wants" are limited to two more
firearms; with those being: a) a pristine condition S&W model 39-2 9m/m
with nickel finish, and b) a LNIB 4" or 6" blued S&W model 19 .357 magnum.

Sure why not?

1. Glock 19 (9mm)
2. Glock 26 (9mm)
3. Sig 245 (45 acp)
4. Browning Buckmark Camper (22LR)
5. S&W 686 w/4" bl (.357 magnum)
6. S&W M49 "Bodyguard" (.38 spc)
7. Marlin Model 60 rifle (22LR)
8. Remington 870 "riot-gun" (12ga)
9. Marlin 1894CS carbine (.357 mag)

I own all the models that I listed. I was hard pressed to pick just nine, but there it is.

Oh dear...

My "priorities"...
1. .22 pistol
2. .22 rifle
3. Heavy pistol
4. Light pistol
5. Mosin
6. Mauser
7. Heavy rifle
8. Light rifle
9. Shotgun

1. S&W 617, .22LR (gotta have a "serious" .22 handgun)
2. CZ452FS, .22 (already have it and like it, although if I were starting from scratch I'd probably get a Lux)
3. CZ75B SA, .40
3.a CZ75 Kadet kit. HAHAHAHAHAHAH I pulled an AR-15 on you, twofer! :D
4. CZ75B .40 Compact
5. A Mosin-Nagant, 7.62x54R (I have an M39 with a scout scope, and an M44)
6. A Mauser, 7.92x57 (I have an M48A)
7. A battle rifle in a proper caliber (I have an FN-49 in 8mm)
8. An intermediate/light rifle in a proper caliber (I have an SKS, basically I mean something in 5.56x45 or 7.62x39, or 5.45x39 if you like such things...or a levergun in .357+)
9. A shotgun in 12ga or 20ga (I want a Mossberg 590)

As silly as I find these threads (no flame intended), I just can't seem to resist playing along. So ...

1. Mossberg 500 12 gauge combo (26" vent rib, 24" rifled slug, and 18.5" cylinder barrels) would do for a multi-purpose shotgun.
2. Remington 541T with high power EFR scope for my .22 rifle.
3. S&W 317 3" revolver for my .22 pistol.
4. Remington 700 VSSF with 3.5-10X mil dot scope in .308 for hunting and long range targets.
5. S&W 4013 .40 for concealed carry.

I'd consider that my bare minimum. Add four more ...

6. Ruger GP100 4" in .357 mag.
7. Marlin 1894 also in .357 mag.
8. CZ 527 American in .223 Win for small game and plinking
9. AR15

That's what I think this morning ...

Well as usual THR has come through!

I have read all the responses and have a LOT of research to do on different kinds of guns recommended in this thread.

Lots of different opinions and that is what makes this forum great.

So far I have decided to...

1. Keep the Sig P226 as my fullsize 9mm (no brainer)
2. Keep the G26 9mm for my hicap subcompact semiauto carry piece
3. Sell or trade the CZ 2975 RAMI for a XD.45
4. Keep the GP100 6" .357 for my "big" revolver
5. Trade the S&W Model 60 .38sp for a .357 snubby (can still shoot .38sp)
6. Take the money from the Para P10.40 sale to buy a couple of .22's, 1 pistol and 1 rifle
7. Buy an AR in .223
8. Buy a Remington 870 with 2 barrels, one for HD and one for hunting.

I think keeping the revolver caliber .357 is the smart thing to do because my wife likes shooting .38sp.

I will also get a 1911, but that is just because "everyone needs a 1911".

So the decisions left are whether or not to buy..either

1. A lever action rifle in .357 (good for ammo consistency)

Or

2. A bolt action rifle (I have no idea what the different calibers are capable of, or what type of rifle to get, I am going to post questions in the rifle forum)

so technically this would leave me with 10 guns (11 if you count the 1911  )

So thanks for the responses and keep 'em coming, may change my mind some more!

MTW

1. Glock 19 9mm with Evo-9 silencer
2. Steyr Scout .308
3. Mossberg 590 Mariner 12ga (as noted above, shotgun is always #3)
--<insert standard "if you could only have 3" cutoff here>--
4. Colt M4LE aka AR15 11.5" with Omni silencer
5. Ruger MkII .22LR with AAC integral silencer
6. Gunsite type M1911 .45ACP
7. Wild West Guns Alaskan Co-Pilot .45/70 takedown
8. M24 style .308 long-range with silencer
9. Barrett M82 or Armalite AR50 with silencer

I couldn't do it in just nine.

In no particular order

1) .22 handgun (Ruger Old Model Single Six)
2) .22 rifle (Savage bolt, accu-trigger)
4) .223 bolt rifle (Savage Model 10)
5) 30-06 bolt Rifle (1903A3) or .308 bolt Rifle (Savage Model 10)
6) .223 semi-auto (AR or Kel-Tec)
7) 7.62x39 (SKS or AK)
8) M1A or Garand (depending on #5)
9) A 12 gauge shotgun, adjustable choke + slug barrel
10) A self defense handgun (Springfield XD-40, XD-45, Ruger Security Six)

Why do you want to get rid of your RAMI?

I really don't want to get rid of anything :( but I have chosen the G26 as my carry gun.

I seem to be more accurate with it and Glocks inherent reliability and durability makes me choose it over the RAMI.

My RAMI is a great pistol but I want to start filling spots in my "well rounded" arsenal so it is going to go. No sense in having 2 subcompact 9mm's.

Keep the suggestions coming!

My thread in the rifle forum is going well and I am well on my way to making a short list of the guns i am going to buy.

If I could have any 9 guns I wanted (within reason), it'd be...

1. Glock 23, CCW
1a. .22 conversion for the Glock
2. Colt Pocketlite, backup
3. Swiss K-31, hunting medium sized game and target shooting
4. Swiss P.E.-57, long-range shooting
5. Ruger 10/22 with integral suppressor, small game hunting
6. Serbu Super Shorty, fun gun
6a. Knoxx Breachersgrip
7. Custom made .375 H&H magnum double rifle (barrels not regulated, perfectly parallel), big game hunting
8. A 16" AR-15 in 6.8mm SPC, home defense
9. Mateba Unica 6 Autorevolver in .44 magnum, fun gun

For me, I'd pick these 9 from my collection as an example of well roundedness...

  1. Glock 19 - Normal sized defense/carry gun, good for carry or home/car.
  2. P3AT - Hide away or deep concealment carry gun.
  3. 12 ga 870 Pump - With differing barrels can be for deer, home defense, or clays.
  4. Semi-auto 12 ga Beretta - Included because I love clays that much and can't do it with a pump.
  5. Scoped rifle in 30-06 or .308 for hunting or precision engagement.
  6. Semi, mag fed rifle in 7.62x39, .223, or .308 for skirmish length engagement.
  7. .22 semi rifle for fun plinking.
  8. .22 semi pistol for fun plinking.
  9. Old family heirloom wallhanger, to remind you of the shooting heritage.

my personal preferences go with my "wishlist" thread.

all need to be good at combat, some a little better at hunting.

G.I. style 1911 (springfield mil-spec)--------------I'm a 1911 person
Custom 1911 (already have a quote from fusion)------it's a 1911, but a 1911 is good for hunting, combat, and ccw.

M1 Garand----------------------------------hunting and combat
Glock 23 with 9mm barrel-------------------cheap, reliable, hi-cap, easy to find parts/mags.

Remington 700 .308 tactical-----------------long range, hunting
A4 style ar-15-------------------------------longer barrel for varmin/target, combat
Remington 870 with extra 18" barrel------------hunting and home defense
Small steel 9mm (cz-75 compact or Browning Hi-power)-------fun/ccw
.357 Revolver(s)- snubby and 6"------------------reliable, ccw for snubby, combat/hunting and outdoors for the 6" model

Marlin 981t .22------------------------------------practice and small game
Browning Buckmark .22-----------------------practice, but maybe small game.
Marlin 336--------------------------------hunting, although it could suit combat, and it's fun with common ammo.

All are pretty reliable, some are more accurate guns, and also they are common guns.

Fun :)
1. Browning HP - 9mm
2. Any S&W .357 revolver ... haven't decided on a model.
3. CZ rami bd - 9mm

4. AI AE in .308 win
5. AR10 in .308 win
6.Marlin 1894 in .357 mag

7. Browning Citori 625 Field - 12 GA
8. Benelli ultra light - 12 GA

9. Anschutz 1903 small bore target rifle

Now of this list I own 0. I don't intend to own half of these if not more. This list is full of examples of good firearms in different "classes" - full size semi, full size revolver, compact semi, long range target, tactical, cowboy, break action shotgun, semi auto shotgun, and target .22. If I were to limit myself to only 9 and wanted a good spectrum... this would be close to the categories I would be looking at. This doesn't even account for milsurps, single shot rifles, single action revolvers, black powder, etc.

1. AR15
2. Remington 870
3. Glock 17
4. Kel-Tec P32 or similar
5. Ruger GP100
6. Ruger 10/22
7. Browning Buck Mark or some .22 pistol
8. Bolt action .308 or .30-06
9. PS90

That's what I'd choose. Every need is covered except for maybe very large game hunting, plus the PS90 just because. Hey a pure fun gun is a need too!

Accross the pond we have different (less) options. I had to sell all my guns a while back so I'm starting again just now. Going for :

1. Benelli M2 - 28inch (hunting / clays)
2. Mossberg 590
3. Semi Auto .22 - Sig 522 or custom AR Silenced (hunting, vermin control, target practice)
4. Rem 700 in 308 (Long range target shooting)
5. SPAS 12 (because ive always wanted one even though they are terrible)
6. A nice english made hammer gun (because i like them)

I'll play.

Rifles:
Barret M82A1 .50BMG (for >800 yards)
Remington 700XCR in .308 (for 300-800 yards)
Colt 6920 or M&P15 AR15 in 5.56 (for <300 yards)
Any of the reliable .22LR rifles like the 10/22, Marlin 60, etc.

Handguns:
Para GI Expert 1911 in .45ACP (with just a couple add-ons)
M&P9 Full size
SW 686 .357 Magnum
SW 642 .38 Special +P
Walther P22 suppressed

Shotguns:
Mossberg 12 ga with three different barrels (18.5" and 26" smooth; 24" Slug barrel)

With that battery, I feel I could cover every necessary use for a firearm. JMHO.

This is what I'd pick -

1. Smith & Wesson Model 41
2. Springfield Custom Carry 1911
3. CZ 452 Trainer
4. Springfield M1A
5. Noveske 16" Recce (AR)
6. S&W Model 27 3.5"
7. Remington 870 Wingmaster
8. Steyr Scout Tactical Elite
9. Browning Hi Power customized by Heirloom Precison

I already own the guns in bold. I'm working on getting the rest.

OK, I'll play

For when I get to emigrate

1. Sub compact glock in .40, for carry
2. BHP - just for sentimental reasons
3. Full size glock in .40
4. Remi 870 with multi barrels
5. Accuracy international in .308 (L96A1- I love it)
6. An M4gery of some description, I would actually like an SA80A2, but no chance of that!
7. A .357 wheelgun, probably a S&W
8. A1894c in .357
9. An SMLE, just to have one!

These will have to wait, although I could get all of them except the pistols. I only have 6 yrs left, and I think I would struggle to bring them across.

1. M1 Garand
2. Ar15
3. FAL
4. Colt 1911 45acp
5. Glock 17
6. SW 686
7. Accurate 308 bolt gun
8. Accurate .223 bolt gun
9. 10/22

My needs have been filled, as I procured a gem mint (99%+) blued
Smith & Wesson 39-2 9m/m; in the original box, with all paperwork
and warranty card. Also, in the same breath I procured a 4" factory
nickel Smith & Wesson model 19-3; in the original box, with all paper
work and warranty card. I'm very proud too be in possession of both~!
;) ;) ;)

*Footnote: I would rate the S&W 19-3 in 98% condition, as its been
fired 37 times using .38 Special SWC's.

I'd like to play too.

1. A large caliber single action revolver (like my Uberti Cattleman in .45 Colt.) It was good for Wyatt Earp...
2. A serious self-defense revolver (like a Smith and Wesson Model 19-2.) .357 Magnum, the ultimate man-stopper.
3. A 9mm semi-auto for carry (a Sig 229 would hit the spot.) Cheap ammo, easy to conceal, good firepower.
4. A .45 acp 1911-A1 (one that has proven its reliability to you.) G.I. Joe was one serious ass-kicker!
5. A pump-action shotgun, 12 ga (seven round mag, eight if you expect zombiegeddon.) Got to have one in case the dead come back.
6. A bolt-action milsurp with lots and lots of cheap ammo (my M44 fits this bill.) A tactical weapon that hits hard and is cheap to feed.
7. A bolt-action, high power, accurate rifle (just like my Winchester Model 70 in .308) When you absolutely, positively have to hit the target.
8. A .22 caliber rifle (Winchester Model 61 does it for me.) Pest control
9. A lever-action carbine (I have a Marlin 336 in .30-30) Putting meat on the table.

Rifles
