Some suggestions: Pick up a nice S&W revolver from the 1950s or 1960s, when the company was at the top of its game; don't get one of the current models. Pick up a Walther PPK and a Walther P.38, for historical reasons as much as anything else. A Browning Buck Mark and a Ruger Mark series pistol would be next on my list. I'd also add a Ruger rifle: the 10/22, perhaps -- or maybe the .44 magnum Deerstalker. I would seriously consider a Colt revolver or some sort, and a Remington 870 shotgun of your choice. I'd leave the last choice to your discretion -- plenty of good opportunities still exist.

In no particular order:

1. Marlin 39A - 22LR
2. Remington 870 - 12Ga
3. Ruger Mini 14 - .223
4. Smith Model 64 - 38 spcl
5. Smith 457 - 45ACP
6. Springfield XD9 - 9mm
7. Smith 442 - 38 spcl
8. Browning Buckkmark - 22LR
9. Winchester 1894 - 38-55

The fist three remain only a fantasy.....but here goes.

Colt Thompson submachine gun.
Browning BAR.
Stoner M63a
Colt .45 SAA, blue, case harden frame, 7 1/2 inch.
Colt Python .357, blue. 6 inch.
S&W model 29-2, blue, 8 3/8 inch.
Colt.45 ACP, 1911 repro
SA .45 ACP, 1911a1
Ruger Mk II, 6 inch.

*Glock 19
*S&W 686/620 4"
1911 5" .45 ACP (not sure what brand)
*H&K P2000sk 9mm or Glock 26

*Mossberg 500

*FN FAL para
*AR15 14.5" 5.56x45 (preferably also with a serperate 10.5" upper)
AK47 7.62x39
bolt action rifle in .300 win.mag.

The ones marked with an "*" are the guns I already own. I would be quite satisfied with the weapons listed. There are few things (if any) I could not do with them.

1. Glock 27 for carry. Keep a Glock OEM .357 Sig barrel to (haha 2 guns in 1.)

2. Spare Glock 27 of mucho practice. Keep AACK .22 unit for it as well as
Lone Wolf 9mm barrle and mags (yep.. THREE guns in 1.)

3. S&W J frame .38 Centennial, all steel, for carry.

4. S&W J frame .357 magnum for practice and as kit gun.

5. S&W 34 2 inch .22 lr for practice.

6. 1911 .45, Very good make and a .22 slide assembly. 2 guns in 1.

7. AR 15 'M4' style 5.56. Get upper in .22 lr also.

8. Mossie Mariner 12 guage. Get spare vent rib barrel for hunting and
a 'battam' stock when you have it in HD mode.

9. .308/30-06 rifle. Ruger/Remington/Winchester/Kimber
(Yes Kimber if you have the bucks.)

10. Ruger 10/22.

And if you are wondering, yep I have all the above and more.

But 'these are a few of my favorite things...'

You guys revived a 3+ year old thread...I wonder how the OP's list is going so far? lol

Hopefully they have more than nine. :)

1) Ruger 10-22
2) Ruger Mk.III
3) Remington 870 12ga with 22" barrel, rifle sights
4) AR/ AK/ SU-16/ Mini-14/ etc. and accessories to taste
5) Handgun suitable for carry
6) Full-size "service pistol" in 9mm, .40, or .45
7) M1 Garand/ M1A/ FAL/ G3/ AR-10 or SR-25
8) Scoped hunting rifle in .308 capable of 1 MOA
9) Whatever suits your particular fancy

All I have is a pistol used for carry and HD, an heirloom pump .22WRF, and a hunk of blackened aluminum that is apparently an AR-15 but is less lethal than if I threw my Calc textbook at you. :D The basic needs are covered, though.

1. S&W 686~.357/.38
2. Marlin 1894 ~.357/.38
3. S&W k-41~.22
4. Ruger 77/22 mkII ~.22
5. Remington Sportman ~ 20g
6. AK 47 ~7.62
7. Rem 700 ~ .308
8. Thompson ~.45 ACP
9. Colt ~.45ACP

Hello friends and neighbors // nine--- that is reasonable

Lets see my five .22 rifles and three .22 pistols and one 12ga. no JK although I like the versatility of .22.

1) Remington 870 Wingmaster 12ga., 28"VR, and 18 1/2" barrels , 7+1,-- many ammo/role options.
2) Marlin 795---- because of 10rd mags and light weight.
3) S&W 617 6" 10 shot--- almost as accurate as a rifle supported.
4)S&W 586 6" .357/.38 -- ammo versatility and punch
5)Ruger Security Six 4" .357/38 ---see above
6)Interarms 92 .357/.38 lever action rifle ---see above
7)1861 Colt Navy .36 w/ 4", 8" barrels----like to have a BP
8)Remington 760 .30-06 see thru rings with night glow irons under a 3X9 scope.--- Quicker than my Mosin.
9)Remington 552 w/ Weaver 2.5X5 scope-----a tack driver that shoots .22 short,L,LR all semiauto.

I could come down to these nine.
I can't believe I'm only choosing one shotgun.

Already have the 9 plus and will try to choose 9

1. S&W K 22, started to go with the M 41, but chose the K 22 for long term reliability.
2 1 of my 1911 types 45acp
3 S&w K 38
4. Marlin 39a
5. Pre 64 Win mod 70 30-06
6 Darne 28ga sliding breech sxs
7 Parker 12ga sxs
8 M-1
9 Marlin 1895, 45-70, started to go with an AR type, but would rather have a heavy hitter.

I would like to add a CZ 375 H&H, a couple of AR types, one in 6.5 Grendel, The Swiss K-31 and the Swede 96, but that would exceed the arbitrary 9 limit.

Since this is back near the top again, this is my list from 2006:

1. Glock 23, CCW
1a. .22 conversion for the Glock
2. Colt Pocketlite, backup
3. Swiss K-31, hunting medium sized game and target shooting
4. Swiss P.E.-57, long-range shooting
5. Ruger 10/22 with integral suppressor, small game hunting
6. Serbu Super Shorty, fun gun
6a. Knoxx Breachersgrip
7. Custom made .375 H&H magnum double rifle (barrels not regulated, perfectly parallel), big game hunting
8. A 16" AR-15 in 6.8mm SPC, home defense
9. Mateba Unica 6 Autorevolver in .44 magnum, fun gun

Still have the Glock 23, never did get a .22 conversion. Ended up with a Kahr MK40 for pocket carry when I don't want to belt carry, still no "backup" piece. Got a K-31, sold it after I realized I'm a terrible shot and 7.5 Swiss is too expensive and hard-kicking to practice with (steel buttplate and too long of a stock, ouch!). Got a Serbu Super Shorty, never bothered with a Breachersgrip since the Pachmayr presentation grip makes the recoil quite tolerable, and looks better. Got a 5.56mm 14.5" AR-15 for home defense and "tacticool" factor. Picked up a Pedersoli Howdah Pistol while Cabelas had them on sale. And I just won an auction for a .44 mag Mateba.

That leaves me with 3 more slots open on my list...

1. Glock 23 - CCW and home defense
2. Kahr MK40 - CCW
3. 12 ga. Serbu Super Shorty - Fun
4. .44 mag Mateba autorevolver - Fun
5. 5.56mm M4gery - Home defense and fun
5a. .22 LR conversion
6. 20 ga. Pedersoli Howdah Pistol (more of a lupara, really) - Fun

7. .380 Seecamp - backup CCW and conversation piece
8. 12 ga NFA "flare gun" made from a single-shot cut down to about 3.5" (need to figure out how to attach the barrel retainer thingie that's normally held in place by the forend) - Fun
9. Some kind of long range rifle, probably an AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel

The only reason a list like this is useful is so you don't run out of money to feed yourself with.

1. Pocket 9mm
2. Fullsize .45ACP
3. Shotgun
4. AR 15
5. .308 Semi Auto
6. .308 Bolt (or more bullets)
7. .22 LR...rifle
8. More bullets
9. More bullets

This would be my shopping list.

S&W 13-4 3"

7 guns

I like Brian's way of looking at it. After 4 years I'll update my choices to match changed preferences and the laws in my country (Australia).

If only one: Glock 17 (The Highlander of firearms :p)

If only 2: add S&W Model 18

If only 3: add CZ452 .22 Magnum

If only 4: add Marlin 1894c in .357 or .44 magnum.

If only 5: add S&W 686 SSR.

If only 6: add .243 Howa/ Weatherby Vanguard

If only 7: add CZ SP01 Shadow & .22lr Kadet unit.

If only 8: add IAC 1887 12 gauge lever action. (No pumps or semiautos in OZ).

If only 9: add CZ452 in .22 long rifle.

4 down, 2 on layaway, 3 to go.

1. 870 (12ga, 20" barrel)
2. AK74 clone (5.45x39mm)
3. Glock 27 (with .357SIG barrel for hiking/camping)

With those 3 I really have all of my bases covered. Anything else would be just to have it

This is what I'd like to have, some of which I do have already..

1. Browning Buckmark 22, everyone needs a 22 plinker pistol
2 concealed carry gun, mine is a Walther PPS in 9mm
3 full size gun, mine is the SA XDM in 40 and I have a Belgian hi-power in 9mm
4 nice revolver, have 2 - Ruger Blackhawk in 357 magnum & Super Blackhawk in 44 magnum
5 22 plinker rifle, on the need to get list or maybe a nice 17hmr rifle
6 Hunting rifle - mine is a Marlin 336C in 30-30
7 pump shotgun - mine is a Winchester 1200 in 12 gauge, works for hunting and trap
8 over/under shotgun - would like a nice one for trap.......
9 varmit rifle- mine is a Remington sportster in 223

I'm over in a couple of categories and under in some but 9 is such a small number. Especially when compared to my wifes shoe collection. : )

I'm surprised that I didn't notice this thread 4 years ago when it first made the rounds, I usually like these mental gymnastics. Anyway, I recently sold a bunch of guns when I moved to a smaller place, and I'm about to sell a bunch more since I don't shoot much, there are guns I haven't shot in years, I still have a small place with little storage, and I just bought a motorcycle so I could use the money for other things.

Other than a small handful of guns that are definitely going and definitely staying, the large middle that can go either way makes this tough.

From what I own, what is definitely going is my .32ACP NAA Guardian, Bersa .380, and 18.5" Benelli Nova 12ga with ghost ring sights. I'm not as sure about my Taurus 85CH (I like it, but my 6 shot, small framed, .357mag Rossi 461 makes it pretty unnecessary on one end, and my lighter 442 makes it unnecessary on the other), Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro (good gun, but not 100% needed as I have another gun in the same niche that will definitely stay), my AR (never shoot it, it is worth a good deal of money, but I do like it), and my Remington 700 SPS Varmint (I really want/wanted a bolt rifle, but I have had it 2 years and I haven't shot it yet).

I am possibly selling, or replacing, my Charles Daly 1911 (a nicer 1911 would be nice). I recently bought a Rossi 451 but the jury is still out (haven't shot it much). I'd like a small 9mm pocketable auto (probably a Kahr PM9). I may sell my black powder revolvers (2)- never shoot them, but they are nice to have and won't bring in much money.

There are about 7 guns on my definitely stay list, but if I limit myself to 9 (the thread) or 12 (likely in real life), the rest are nearly impossible to figure what to do with.

9 firearms?

Easy...

1. 12 gauge pump. (EVERY American household should have a 12 gauge pump imo, hell, it should be LAW.)

2. 30-06 bolt action. (See above)

3. Tactical rifle. (For emergency protection against packs of wild 2-legged critters.)

4. 30-30 lever action. (Good brush gun, excellent first large rifle for youngins)

5. .22 rifle (for little critters, teaching the youngins)

6. 1911 (Defense gun)

7. 1911 (Game gun)

8. .44 mag or above (hunting handgun)

9. .22 pistol (for little critters, teaching the youngins)
