I wanted to add a P-series Sig to my collection, and I chose this P225-A1 Classic as my first P-series (definitely won't be my last). It is a single-stack (8+1) 9mm DA/SA with decocker. I was also considering a M11-A1 or a Legion P229, but my high cap carry needs are already covered by other guns in my stable (Sig P320, Sig SP2022, Glock 19, M&P 40 FS, etc.) and the P225 fits my hand like the gun was custom made for me!

Some will say that the P225 is large for a single-stack, and that is true, but the extra size and heft make it a terrific shooter. I chose the "Classic" version because I love the look of wood grips as opposed to the G10 grips on the Nitron version. The gun came with SigLite Night Sights, and the Sig SRT (short-reset trigger). The DA trigger pull is fairly heavy but smooth and predictable, and the SA trigger pull is sweet; light and crisp. With the SRT, shooting to the reset is a dream!

After field-stripping, inspecting, clean/lube, I took it to the range this morning. The targets shown in the photos are the very first rounds out of the gun. Shot at 7yds. with a combination of Winchester 124gr. FMJ NATO-spec range fodder, Speer Gold Dot 124gr. +P JHP and Hornady Critical Defense 115gr. FTX. Not bad for the very first shooting session I think. I ran app. 150 rounds through the gun without a single malfunction, which is normal for a Sig.

I had only two minor issues. First, the way the slide-lock lever is positioned, my high thumbs-forward grip nudged it a couple of times, causing the slide to not lock back after the last round fired. Correcting this required only a small adjustment in my grip. Second, the grip screws shot loose a little by the end of the session. This is not uncommon with wood grips. To correct this I simply installed Challis low-profile grip-screw o-rings between the screw head and the grip. I have put these on all my other guns with wood grips, and it always solves the problem. I prefer this solution to using lock-tite, which also will work.

I bought the gun online from Grab-A-Gun. Paid $829.00. I already love this gun, it is such a sweet shooter. I now see why P-series Sigs have such a loyal following! I am already planning my next purchase, most likely a P229 Legion.

Thanks for the photos, this gun has been on my radar for a while now. Yeah, I wish it didn't have the slide stop lever from the 239 either, but it fits the hand nicely.

Very nice; this one is on my 2017 purchase list

Can't wait to see the video... :)

I have had a P 6 (civilian version is the original P225) that i have shot for years and the size and magazine capacity are just fine. Double stack pistols, of which i have many, are less comfortable for me to shoot than my single stack pistols and the old Sig seems to do what i need and even a bit more. My P 6 is a German Police trade in, one of many thousands that flooded the country at one time, and are scarce on the used pistol listings today suggesting many others like the pistol as i do. This particular P 6 travels back and forth between my buddy in Texas and me depending upon which of us has Sig meltdown at the time, it has dispatched many hogs caught in traps and hopefully will take many more.

Yeah, the P-225A1 fits my hand perfectly, too, and this pistol has become my favorite all-time single-stack 9mm. Conceals perfectly and is so much better to shoot than a sub-compact pistol (although I love my P-938 as well). P-229 Legion, you say? Don't think you can go wrong there either ...The great sights and triggers are just icing on the cake.

Here's my pair:

What a gorgeous gun. I really want to add one to my family of Sigs to go into my carry rotation as a compliment to my Legion P226 and P229.

I've been carrying a P239 for about 5 years now. I plan on switching to the 225A1 sometime in 2017 and passing the 239 off to my oldest son. As crazy as it sounds, the 225 fits my hand better than the 239. I prefer to carry in a vertical draw, outside the waistband holster. Finding such a holster for the 239 was a daunting task and I was never happy with any of the options. I'm hoping Galco will offer their Avenger holster shaped for the 225A1. Last time I looked at Galco's website the 225 wasn't listed as a gun the Avenger holster would accommodate.

I realize this is personal choice and many will disagree but I've never felt unprepared with the 239's capacity of 8+1 and a spare magazine. I just don't see myself in a situation where I would need more than that.

I really like the size and shootability of the Sig 938 for times when concealing the 239/225 is challenging but I just can't get comfortable with carrying cocked & locked. Too bad they couldn't have designed the 938 as a DA/SA.

I also have a W.German police surplus Sig P6, best $319.00 I ever spent. A reliable and accurate pistol for sure. It's too bad that the magazines don't interchange between the new P225-A1 and the older P225 and the P6. I could use a couple extra mags and the older mags are hard to find and expensive.

IBmikey beat me to it. I have the P6 and it is just like It came imported and it is one of my best shooters and one of my favorite carry pieces. If you ever shoot one you won't easily get rid of it.

Fantastic! That A-1 Classic has been on my "lust list" ever since it came out. I've owned several of the older P6 guns and by the time I bought a nice looking set of wood grips for them, the cost was almost as much as one of these new P225s. Congrats on a great gun!

I own a P239 SAS Gen2 9mm and really enjoy the way it looks, feels, and shoots. I also really like the looks of the new P225-A1 pistols with the black G10 grips and with the SRT trigger system to boot (haven't got a chance to hold one yet). I didn't realize Sig had a version with very nice wood Sig logo grips (they look even more fantastic with those wood grips on them). They remind me of the old German Nill grips. I definitely have to add this new Sig model to my inventory in the upcoming year. Shlike, enjoy for new Sig!

I know its been, well...almost exactly 2 years by now since your post...but I'm also looking at a p225a-1 and have owned a P6, and this thread had a lot of great information. How in the hell does Sig make the 225 fit so many hands so well?!?!

If you still have the 225, how has she held up?

See the other thread. I shoot my 225 regularly; it's accurate, 100% reliable with FMJ and JHP. Never malfunctioned, not once, still looks new even though it's carried on occasion (I do travel to a couple states with mag capacity limits). I'm a huge fan ...

I bought two when they were on sale. The wood grips look great but are noticeably bigger. One of mine is a "rattler".
