Hi everyone,

Been reading awhile, first time posting. I recently picked up my first handgun, a used sig p225 from Gander Mtn. I picked it up on Friday, got about 300 rounds through it and on Sunday broke what I believe is the trigger bar spring (the spring that pushes the trigger back in place).

I took it back to Gander to be told it'd be 6-8 weeks turn around, and I obviously am upset to say the least. I see parts kits for $25 from online retailers...so I was wondering if there are any write-ups or diagrams available online so I can just get my pistol back and fix it myself. I know next to nothing about how handguns are put together but I am pretty mechanically inclined and think I should be able to handle it...unless I am missing something.

Also as a side question...what grip options are available for the p225? I see plenty for other sig models, will work with the slimmer single stack grip as well?

Thanks all for your help, and the wealth of knowledge provided.

I just sent one into SIG to be worked on. Although I don't think it is working to my satisfaction yet, the turnaround time was less than a week including shipping.
I'm still disappointed but at least they are quick about it and seem willing to try and correct problems.
Is your gun a CPO? If it is, it is under warranty for a year. If not, 6 weeks is still absurdly long to wait. From my experience with SIG, I can't see how it could possibly take that long.
Also, if its under warranty they will pay the shipping.

Someone mentioned a CD or DVD and parts kits.

1BLINDREF covered it well. If you pick up a P6, Top Gun Supply should be your next stop. They have what you need and at reasonable prices and great service.

I would also recommend you pick up one of the armorer's CD's from them. Its well worth the $21 they get for it. It shows you how to detail strip and reassemble most all the SIG's and is very easy to follow.

I am unsure if its a CPO, the guys at Gander could not answer me for sure. As of right now Gander's gunsmith has ordered the part and is going to fix it, that's where the 6 weeks is coming from.

I know..I should have made sure I got these questions answered at the time, I'm really regretting going to Gander. I think I would prefer to just fix it myself, good excuse to learn.

Actually not to hijack a thread or anything but I just called to SIG to have my 229 repaired from some issues and its a CPO. The guy I talked to was very nice but said they will not pay for shipping but will pay for all repairs. I debated making a stink about it but I dont like the gun anyways and I am going to sell it when returned for an HK

I would make a big deal out of it. You already paid for the gun once. When I dealt with them last week they just emailed me a shipping label with no BS.
Eventhough I am not impressed with their ability to actually fix the problem and my gun will probably be going back, I do have to give them credit for that.

Yeah you are right. Aside from the guy on the phone crunching dorritos in my ear while talking to me I kind of let it go I was going to take it to UPS today but I think I will call back and ask them why I have to pay

---------------EDIT------------

Goon thanks for talking some sense into me. I called back this morning and the guy I got this time was amazed I had to pay for shipping. he sent me a prepaid lable from UPS right away. there may be hope for SIGS reputation in my eyes yet.

I just talked to a guy there named Zack. I think he was a younger guy, probably about my age. He was also helpful with the problem I am still having with my P-226. After he got my info we wound up BSing about guns for about 15 minutes before I had to go. They have some good people working for them anyhow.
