I have never tried to do anything like that in any of my revolvers....and I've owned a boat load over the years.....never even heard about most of the little nit-picky things people have come up with to complain about firearms until the internet rolled around.....I'll keep being oblivious.
Ruger has a bad habit of oversizing their throats, this causes extreme leading if a standard diameter cast bullet is used.
I will assume you don't reload.
I will assume you do not shoot any 44 cal. Ruger revolvers with lead bullets.
The cylinder throats of a Ruger redhawk measure .432" a .433" cast bullet is hard to come by.
I now know why there are Ruger only loads, most of the pressure is escaping through the oversized cylinder throats.
Been reloading for almost 20 years and have shot tons of lead bullets from my various Ruger revolvers......never had an issue with standard sized lead bullets.......never measured a throat one either......

I can get .432" cast lead to work in my Red Hawk, but it's a pain. The throats on the cylinder are .432" WHY?
S&W does .429-.4295" and it works way better
The barrel of this of the Red Hawk is with in spec but the over sized cylinder throats cause leading at the cylinder throat and forcing cone.
I don't think I'm the only with this issue, http://www.pennbullets.com/44/44-caliber.html
My self and others have brought this issue to Ruger and they have not addressed it. Much of the pressure in my Red Hawk is waisted at the cylinder gap.
I checked out a Ruger model 1761 at the LGS and I was not impressed. I have tthree 44 cal. bullets in the truck they measure .429", .429", and .430". The .430" passed through all chambers with no resistance Whats up with that Ruger?
