Im a revolver man who owns a couple 1911's and a BHP. I owned a Glock 17 for a summer but being a revolver/1911 guy who slicks up his triggers I figured "well this trigger just plain sucks" and sold it. I realize now it obviously wasn't the Glocks fault, it was my lack of practice with it.

So I recently decided to pick up another striker 9mm and give it one last try. For range and possible carry. I've heard excellent things about the Vp9. Concerns the PPQ's trigger is too light. The Sig isn't drop safe. And heard nothing really on the FN. Also heard all are great. Input? Address concerns I've heard? Thanks in advanced.

NOTE: Please don't vote for what's not listed. Glock, Smith, Springfield, Ruger etc. I looked into them and have nothing against them, but these are the ones I've narrowed my list down to. NOTE 2: I can NOT handle/rent these. My lgs here in the boonies carries none and Im not driving 2+ hours in my pickup to cabelas. So Im ordering blind here.

The SIG 320 with the factory modification (and the new ones shipped after the fix) are indeed pretty much drop safe. Check out the SIG page - as far as I am concerned, the SIG pistols (and rifles) currently made here (all models) are among the best made anywhere. Like you I am a 1911/revolver fan first, but the 226 and 220 I have are easily competitive with the 1911s, and I have some that have been worked over by some pre-eminent smiths. For what it's worth (not much), I hate striker fired pistols, though I have a Glock 21 with a superb trigger but too light for duty carry...

My Walther PPQ M1 in .40 is a sweet shooter, the trigger is awesome. I've heard good things about the VP9's as well.

Both the Walther PPQ M1 version and the HK VP9's are paddle mag releases, I like them, some don't. If you want the traditional round thumb release on the magwell you need to get the Walther PPQ M2, I don't believe HK offers anything but the paddle release.

Ergonomics between the PPQ and the VP9 are pretty close.

Do you know after which date they made the fix so I can check the box upon ordering? If I go the Sig route I don't want to get some new old stock and have to make the fix right off the bat.

I don't mind the paddle. Never used one but I believe its something I can get used to.

I voted Walther PPQ but VP9 is terrific too. I tried the P320 but did not like that the trigger has almost zero take up for CCW use and trigger action was not near as nice as PPQ and VP9.

I've rented and shot all but the SIG. FN shot great but the mag release was extremely difficult for me to press, if I remember right it is slightly recessed and took a very deliberate effort to operate. I wouldn't carry one for that reason unless I wasn't planning on carrying an extra mag.

Both the VP9 and PPQ are great shooters and would trust either but would pick the Walther since I like its reset better.

I like Glocks and 1911's, but don't believe they are the only things out there. If you're into 1911's and are used to the safety I'd consider one of the Sig 320's with a thumb safety similar in operation to a 1911. I haven't seen or tried one yet, but want to.

I don't necessarily have a problem with the striker guns with no safety as long as they are carried in a good holster. And the Glocks, as well as most others have a long enough, and heavy enough trigger pull that I'm not terribly concerned. But there are times where a gun needs ready to fire, and not in a holster. For those times I really like a safety, or a much heavier, longer trigger pull. I'm talking about nightstand or similar duty.

I've looked at the Sig in stores and tried the trigger. I like the gun, but the trigger on the sample I tried was much lighter than my Glocks. I'm used to a 1911 safety and don't think I'd mind one at all on this gun. But I've yet to actually see or handle one with a safety yet. If I understand correctly they are going to offer one.

I have not fired any of the four listed but I have been very tempted by the PPQ M1.
There was a $100 rebate recently, if there is another one I'll probably buy.
Since you don't want other suggestions I wont mention the Steyr M, C or S A1's.

Why the rush? I’d just find an excuse to go to Cabelas in the near future and wait to order one until I could handle them all. A firearm is a very personal purchase. You aren’t ordering AA batteries here. And, you already have sidearms you can carry in the meantime. Of the ones you have listed, I vote for either the Sig or the Walther.

I used to have an FNS-40 and didn't like the grip (Overdone with the "texturing"), it being striker fired, and it being a .40!
The Walther is ok, The HK was the one I voted for, but the Sig, with the "upgrade", would be fine too.

I don't understand why you don't just go to a hammer fired polymer gun, like the CZ P-07, or if you want to go budget, the SAR CM9 Gen 2. Of the FNX-9. if the grip doesn't repel you. IMHO, it's way way overpriced, but almost all polymer guns are.

Well, I have shot all of them...although only a couple of mags through a couple of them.

The first I'd eliminate would be the FN, it is just a nightmare to take apart and tinker with.

The best out of the box triggers are pretty much a toss up between the H&K and the Walther...I liked the VP9 better. I really like the paddle mag releases as it is a very natural motion for either your thumb or index finger.

The SIG had the best feel in my hand...I spent years carrying and teaching with a 226 or 220. Out of the box the trigger felt heavy (over sprung) but Grayguns offers a nice drop-in package to address that...Bruce has done all my SIGs.

The SIG 320 upgraded triggers are basically what they are supplying for the M17/18 with the addition of a disconnector. Mine came back with a smoother/lighter trigger and a slightly longer reset. Checking the box for date of manufacture won't help you. Any reputable dealer would have pulled their stock and sent them in to be modified. There is no new production with the modification as they stopped current production to devote capacity to modifying current guns...some guys are getting their guns after only being at the factory about a week..

The two easiest ways to tell if your 320 is up to current spec is the lightened trigger or the disconnector cut under the slide

If you don’t like the VP9, then you’re just not going to get along well with any striker pistols. You certainly wouldn’t be the first to reach that conclusion.

Those are pretty big guns for possible carry.
I don't mind. I have large hands and will take the sacrifice of a possible uncomfortable carry over a sub compact that has a 2.75" sight radius and only 2 of my fingers rest on the grip. I wouldn't be very effective. I also have a muscular frame where my t shirts "drape" off my back so a 4 or 5 o'clock iwb carry wouldn't print on a bigger gun I believe. I don't have my permit yet but around the farm when the heavy lifting is done, I carry a 6" 686 in a shoulder holster very comfortably. I chose the above guns because I believe they're exactly what I'm looking for. I was set on the USP 45 for edc! Till I held one... What a tank.

I'm a longtime glock shooter. The PPQ Q5 is the only gun I might get instead if I had to do it all over again. The Q5 trigger is really nice. The HK is meh, the FN is ok, but I don't really care for it. I have not shot the Sig 320.

No real rush. But when I get a firearm purchase in my head it stays burned into my mind until the second I own it. Im not an impulse buyer, I'll read reviews and watch hickok45. Great advise btw, but I've never been burned on a gun I've ordered, size, fit etc. Just lucky. Plus cabelas gets me into trouble. I go in with $650 in mind for a striker and leave with over $1000 spent.
