Hi everyone,
Do you think a shotgun for HD
Absolutly requires training ?

Talking about 12 gauge #9 and 00 and slugs of course..

Many people have a 500 or an 870 at the crib but shot it once or twice sometimes never.
Is there a
real safety concern here ?

Must? Yes it is the question here.:)

Getting a mav 88 soon, and it's been a while a didn't shoot a 12, so even tho I ll have dry drills at home,in case of emergency would the recoil at 3 am in a situation be hard to handle..
Also I live in France, clubs usually ban shotgun firing:what:..
, should have stayed in The US:cool:

Safety concern? Of course - no different than having a handgun and running into a problem - if you do not know how to immediately rectify the situation, you could be dead - I'd call that a safety concern. Short stroke it, forget to pump, get a FTE or FTF.............

Understood, but I was mainly talking about the recoil here.
If I remember correctly,it's a blast:evil:..
I was young(er) but still..
PS:avoiding shortstrokes and get the reloading quick reflexes(including tactical reloading) is the main goal of dry drillso_O

Welcome to The High Road,

If you don't know what your gun can do and is capable of, yes it can be a safety concern. Unfortunately, I believe it happens more often than we realize. How many revolvers or pistols set in a nightstand and have never been shot, but are there "just in case". Chances are they will work fine if needed, but that doesn't mean that it is the right thing to do or the person will know how to use them if the time comes and they are needed.

I would at least run dummy rounds through a gun if I wasn't able to get out and really shoot it.

I see you say you are in France, you just joined today, and you have boatload of questions on 3 different forum areas.

I have a good online friend, username Ringo, who is a mod/admin on the site link below. It is mostly a BP forum but he is is well versed in firearms law in France.

Register on the site and ask questions afterwards.

What are you thinking when addressing 12 gauge #9 shot as a HD round? A shotgun absolutely requires training for any purpose, same as any other firearm. Just because you shot a few rounds out of them that only gave you a feel for the recoil and you thought that it "was a blast" makes me think you have no clue.

I am not trying to be snarky, but you seem to have young man's online bent insofar as firearms are concerned. You need to spend some serious money and go to a shooting range, rent guns, buy ammunition, and see that it is not a "virtual" thing. I am 65 and guys like you tend to scare me.

I was about 12 yrs old and had my first shotgun, an Ithaca Deerslayer 12 ga. I heard 'someone' scraping metal-on-metal on our front screen door. I bailed out of my bedroom window and drew down on the entranceway. The Entranceway was a perfect kill box, about a 15' cement hallway leading to our front door. I took aim and yelled out.

Eventually, I saw my dog had escaped and his chain was tangled in the screen door latch, that was the metal-on-metal I heard.

Everything worked out, no shots fired. But ...

Also I know the law,I studied it..
And that's precisely why I'm asking few questions that would be left unanswered or thought as outlaw in Europe(except for Switzerland and Czech republic)..
As I lived and partly grew up in the US,I know my brothers in arms will answer.
I think y'all heard how f.dup Europe became,we have our mass shooting/truck killings too and tight as a virgin gun laws.
To protect the 1rst u need the 2d.
Just had to say it..

Well #9 if I'm correct are the 00 buck in France..
9 pellets 8,35,I believe..
Devastating..a lot of recoil thus my question above..1200fps should be manageable but at 3am waking up,with only dry drills?
That was my question

For something ass serious as using a gun in your house to shoot someone in defense of self or others, I would say training is pretty important. Other important things are a workable, tentative plan, and a weapon mounted light.

Depending where you are, there are good HD shotgun classes available and competitions to test your skills.

Tom Givens, www.rangemaster.com is one good example. You can miss with a shotgun, you need to pattern it and choose a good SD load. You need to practice reloads and clearances.

Just for safety concerns when things go wrong. A friend of mine was in a police/military shotgun competition. They had to get prone and shoot under a car. He didn't have a solid placement of the stock and dislocated his collar bone. Ouch!

Now that sounds painful..
He must have been pissed at himself pretty bad..
Well martial arts helps but y all right on target here.
It seems unavoidable at least just to know well my "friend"..
I guess I ll go in the forest if I can't find a club which accepts shotguns..(club owners here like old french duck hunters with their double:uhoh:):scrutiny:
I know it's logical but I had to ask..

I love Memphis trust me my ex was from there, was there also as a kid but I'm 5k miles away..
I ll try to find something if it exists around here..
France is a socialist antigun country don't 4get..
Thx 4 the link tho..appreciate it

France isn't anti-gun., they're anti self-defense.

Remember EU HQ in Brussels is trying to disarm everyone and turn Europe into the former USSR; it is truly unbelievable, especially after letting in millions of Muslims, their sworn enemy.

England is the same way. Friends I have who live there can buy all of the shotguns and hunting rifles (with OTC suppressors) and can hunt and sport shoot to their hearts (and wallets) content. Use a gun in SD and you're in DEEP Kimchee,

In UK there's a knife violence epidemic ..
Still people just like in France aren't allowed to carry even a pepper spray..
Seriously.GTFOH
Pepper spray is usually one of the first gifts I give to a girl who start 2b serious with me..

Makes sense know. Here #9 shot is not common, very small and used for skeet, snake and rats.

One of the most important facets to HD shotgun practice is load selection. You will be defending an enclosed area, possibly in the dark, and likely without hearing protection. Finding the right balance of low recoil (if desired), low flash, and best pattern loads at room length distances is important.

Agreed,
But the dilemma is loss of stopping power under a 0 buckshot..
Birdshots out of question so probably the lightest buck load..

Anybody got a # of light but powerful buckshot?
