Every time I see one of the old vintage revolvers, I smile. Thanks for the pic & congrats on the fine acquisition.

Awhile back I developed a bit of a thing for vintage .32WCF (a.k.a., .32-20) revolvers:

My dad still drops one of these in his pocket from time to time- .32 Harrington & Richardson Vest Pocket. circa 1900.

Love my CZ70. Not a revolver, but got it for a song, since 32s lost popularity.

32 revolvers are truly impossible not to enjoy. I have a couple and am always looking for another one. For 475 with the box you did well enough. We're the original tools and paperwork in the box? If not they can be replaced to make it a full set again, and I would do it for that little Smith.

IKR! I just snagged one of these at the LGS for $100....the guy said, "Well, it's old and a .32 and nobody shoots those anymore....and I really don't want it in the case next to my Glocks and XDs......"

I pocket carry the CZ70 all the time. Heavy DA trigger, decent size. Very heavy, tho...

Nice Postwar 32 Regulation Police. Particularly with that nice Red box. Always nice to find an oldie with the correct box.

The Postwar version of the 32 Regulation Police was made from 1946 until 1960, with Serial Numbers running from 536000 through about 712953. So yours is a pretty early one. In 1957 the name was changed to Model 31. Built on the I frame. Eventually, the Model 31 came to be built on the J frame.

Here are a couple of Pre-War 32 Regulation Police revolvers from 1924 and 1925. Notice the large mushroom shaped knobs on the ends of the ejector rods. Also, notice the different style grips.








I can see from your photos that the grips on yours are cut the same way the Pre-War grips were.






Here is what the grip frame looks like with the grips removed. You can see how the grips were carved to receive the small round butt frame. I'm not going to include a photo of the Serial Number on mine, but because of the grip arrangement the SN was stamped on the front of the grip. Unusual since S&W usually stamped the SN on the bottom of the grips.






S&W actually obtained a patent on this style of grips. I would be interested to know if the patent is marked on the bottom of the grips on your 32 Regulation Police.






Anyway, these little revolvers are fun to shoot with 32 S&W Long ammo.

I pick it up tomorrow after work. If I'm lucky, I'll get a chance to shoot it this weekend. Range report to follow.....

It's a fixed-barrel blowback, so if it feeds OK, it should be accurate. We shall see!

Chronologically, if not design wise, yes. The first gen Walther autos ceased production at approx. the same time the PP came along.

$100! You are so lucky! I paid $300 for my Mauser Model 1914 and felt like I got a good deal.

32 autos and 32 revolvers are both fun to shoot. A few of mine were less than $200, but $100 is a STEAL!

32 Long WC ammunition is readily available and shoots great. Other 32 Long ammunition is available but not much "designer" protection ammunition.

If you reload, components are available. Star Line has cases. Wadcutter and round nose lead bullets are available. Dies are available and powder charges are economical. If you cast your own bullets, moulds are available. I cast RCBS 98 grain wadcutters but the RCBS 98 grain SWC is also available. Other moulds are available.

I enjoy shooting my 32 caliber revolvers. Enjoy your new revolver.

Ya, now the .32 floodgates are open for me...the 1914 Mauser, Savage 1907, and a .32 PP are all on my radar again.

As far as revolvers, at some point, I'll be inheriting my Dad's Vest Pocket, an H&R Young American and several Iver John top-breaks, along with a large quantity of .32S&W ammo.

I'll definitely be keeping the Vest Pocket because it has been his EDC for like, 50 years. I shot it once- it was about like you'd expect for a gun with no sights and a 200lb trigger pull, lol. It IS actually possible to cock it for a single action shot if you are careful and dextrous enough......

my two .32,s, a ruger 32 H&R mag and a S&W 32 in 32 long. I got the 32 S&W 31 at a auction very cheap(200.00) after a loud mouth said it was not original as the sights were not factory. the rear sight is a s&w adjustable and the front is a micro, who ever added them knew what they were doing. and It sure shoots well. the ruger was used and a spur of the moment buy at a gun show at a good price(275.00) and also is a good shooter. I reload for both.

You will enjoy shooting your RP. I obtained this one last August and the serial number is only a few thousand "newer" than yours. It is an Improved I Frame ca. 1953.
