I know each of us that frequent Gunbroker has seen some things that cannot be unseen, we might cringe and wonder what in the world someone was thinking. I thought I'd share something I saw recently, looks to be a 1916 Spanish mauser, caliber unknown, but that "custom" scope mount tells the sad tale. Does any one else have pictures or stories of what you found on Gunbroker? rifle.jpg

AHHHHHHHH!!!!! My Eyes!
It burns.......!!!!

Well, at least one won't loose his zero because of poor fitted scope mount... I've seen stuff like this - it's a 100% "Bubba" job, but done well it works. My personal favorite was a somewhat decent over and under that the owner decided to "re-blue" - automotive black spray paint on the whole shotgun without disassembly... And then he broke a hammer spring - I learned some very sophisticated swear words from my local gunsmith that day when I dropped by to share a coffee with him.

I'm just thankful he didn't start with a GOOD rifle..... There's only so much harm you can do with/to a Spanish 1916....

That looks like my old buddy Dean's rifle. And yes, I can see him butchering a weapon in that way. Oy.

Oh my, that looks like solder, plain solder.
If it's ordinary soft solder there might be hope to UN-solder it without affecting the heat treatment of the receiver. From a restoration standpoint, that's better than high-temperature silver solder, or welding. At least he didn't drill and tap the receiver.

Look at the muzzle looks like they growned off the front sight and did not know when to stop. Its cone shaped. I have seen worse. Look on the everygunparts.com and look at the nfa guns. most are much worse then this.

Well, I was on gunbroker again, looking up some rifles I would love to own, when I came across this....um..."custom" 1915 Westinghouse Mosin Nagant...be warned, the images may induce anger and head scratching. Makes one wonder..
