There are always a ton of poorly fixed or customized guns available on GunBroker. Buy them and fix them or ignore them, it's not worth losing sleep over.

Ran into one of the ongoing butcher jobs. These were more common some years back. You would find a WW2 98 Mauser. The rifle would be matching with good bore and much original finish. The laminated stock would be hacked back-"Sporterized and redid". Bubba had taken a bring back 98 and totally destroying any historical aspect of the rifle. I had salvaged a matching BYF43 action from one of these butcher jobs to have a custom rifle built. Wonder what kind of story some of these rifles could tell from their pre-Bubba military days?

I'll put some pictures up if I can of a '72 (XX8) ASM Walker I rescued off of GB. The description said the cyclinder bolt was broke and that it was in good shape. I could see from the pictures that it had wear and improper use of screwdrivers on some of the heads but once I recieved it and took it apart....Holy Cow.... who ever owned it prior to the gun shop I got it from must have given it to their kids/grandkids to play with. I'm guessing after the bolt broke they must have used it for practice in fanning the hammer. The hammer is indented from striking the bare nipples. The nipples are all deformed and the safety pins are all mashed flat. Also several indications that when parts got jammed, someone went at it with a screwdriver as a pry bar. Oh well not dissappointed in the purchase just disgusted that someone would be so careless with a fine revolver. I have a '85 dated ASM Walker that is great to shoot and this one will be too in the near future.

I know each of us that frequent Gunbroker has seen some things that cannot be unseen, we might cringe and wonder what in the world someone was thinking. I thought I'd share something I saw recently, looks to be a 1916 Spanish mauser, caliber unknown, but that "custom" scope mount tells the sad tale. Does any one else have pictures or stories of what you found on Gunbroker?View attachment 799706

You need the auto collision guy from the movie “Doc Hollywood”. He could fix anything.
